No, my friends are--[After all, it would make more sense to say 'friends' than 'pack mates' to a stranger, but he pauses and looks at her after he notices something off. She smells like death.]
Why do you smell like that?
[A question that's sure to raise more by its very nature, but the sudden horrible feeling that his senses are telling him he's talking to a corpse puts him on edge.]
"Now that's just rude. You can't just ask a girl why she smells. Especially when you smell like that." A sigh. "Don't worry, pup, I'm not gunna hurt you. I just ate."
She pushes a strand of platinum blonde hair out of her face and cocks her head to the side, listening for any increases, ticks or stutters in his heart beat when she speak.
Isaac was about to ask 'smell like what', but it didn't take too long for him to figure out what she was talking about, especially when she calls him 'pup' a short while later. Whatever this person was, she could smell him just as well as he could smell her, which meant that there wasn't too much point in trying to hide anything.
"Packmates," he corrected, "They're gone and I smelled their blood in the woods. Stiles is gone, too."
He wasn't quite as worried about Stiles, though. After all, Stiles was human, so he figured they surely weren't going to hurt him, were they? He wanted them all back safe, but he knew they'd have no problem with killing Erica and Boyd.
Oh, great. "Joy. I've walked into wolf territory, wonderful. Just a heads up, there are a lot of Big Bads that know who I am and will miss me if I go missing." Just to clarify. "And what kind of name is Stiles?" Whatever. She sighs again, scrunching up her nose and clicking her tongue.
"Have you thought to... track them? Isn't that what your kind does? Y'know, nose down, bum up, sniff the ground tracking?" Really? Had he not thought of that?
He didn't know if what she said about 'big bads' was true or not, but he didn't care, either. Right now he was mostly focused on finding Erica and Boyd.
"Stiles is a terrible name."
But it wasn't like Isaac named him. As for tracking them...
"No," he said sarcastically, "I totally forgot I had an enhanced sense of smell." After a pause, he explained. "I lost their scent once they reached a road. I think they probably loaded them up into a car or something. I smelled Allison there, though, with her dad. Maybe I can find her and question her. If she realizes that they're really going to kill them--"
Then maybe she'll help get them free. Of course, Isaac was unaware of how things had changed with Allison as of late, and still assumed that despite being an Argent, she was still a reasonably good person. At the very least, not the sort who would let a couple of innocent people die just because they were werewolves.
"That... Isn't that something you get in, like, your eye or something?"
She scoffs, rolling her eyes once again. "Do you realise just how retarded that plan is? Let's summarise that. You plan to approach the people who took your packmates -whose blood you smelled, by the way- and talk to them, even though they're likely to kill you too? Stellar plan, there, baby."
Leaning back against the tree behind her, Ruby watches him, a brow raised as she thinks. "Wait, these hunters, they're human right? See, where I come from, we have this thing called a Daywalker. He's this big, badass, hybrid vampire. Compared to him, you're little hunters will be, well, a midnight snack. You sound like you need a little help, and I happen to be a cute little bundle of small and deadly." And as if to prove her point, she lets her own claws come out to play.
"You know, that name strangely kind of suits him, then."
Isaac didn't see a huge problem in the plan, but he knew something this vampire didn't. Allison was, or at the very least had been, in love with Scott McCall, which he assumed meant she didn't really hate all werewolves. Granted, she wasn't a huge fan of Derek's pack and they weren't a fan of her, but that didn't mean she wanted them dead, right?
"I don't trust Allison, but she is dating a werewolf, and she goes to school with us. I don't think she really wants to kill us. If you have a better plan, though, feel free to tell me."
Were the hunters human? Of course they were.
"A midnight snack? Yeah, they're human." He wasn't entirely sure he could trust this stranger, and he wasn't sure she wouldn't get there and butcher everybody...but he needed to know that Erica and Boyd were okay. "Yeah, I need help."
Ruby wasn't the brightest Crayola in the pack, she'd be the first to admit that, but even she could see the holes in the plan to just approach the enemy. And she had absolutely no problem with being the bitch who pointed them out.
"So, wait. The hunter is dating a werewolf all while injuring and capturing others? Wow. She's got a screw loose."
A sigh. "The lack of trust is a good thing. It'll keep you alive. I trusted the wrong person once and now I'm stuck in a world where a tan will literally kill me. You gotta think smart. I guarantee it that these hunters of yours are. Don't go with the expected route, so no guns blazing. You need to be subtle if you wanna be alive long enough to help the others -Erica and Boyd, right?- You've got something they won't be expecting.
"She's an Argent. Of course she has a screw loose."
And that was why he was having so much trouble making sense of any of this. Listening to Ruby, he nodded, feeling comforted by the fact that it sounded like she might be able to get together a real plan.
"Well, you definitely aren't something they'll be expecting. And thanks. For all of this."
For saying she won't eat anyone, for offering to help, for keeping him from doing something that was honestly a stupid plan, but the only one he had.
"Did you have a specific plan in mind?" Or, he thought, should he be coming up with one. "If it helps, I know where the Argents live, but I don't think they'll keep Erica and Boyd there. It would make them too easy to find."
"She's a hunter. Doesn't matter what family she's from."
She needed information, anything and everything she could get, because as willing as he was to help, she wasn't dying for a couple of baby werewolves. And she says as much.
"The way I see it, we monster types have to stick together, whether we're walking corpses who live on the blood of mortals or people with dog breath." But the smile she offers is genuine, human teeth shining unnaturally bright.
"For starters. I want you to take me to the place where you could smell their blood. It'd help if I know which scents I'm looking for. And then I wanna know everything you know about these Argents and their arsenal. Any silver and I'm screwed. And just because I can, doesn't mean I wanna spend a week growing a limb back." A grin. "And then I'm gunna put this cute thing I'm rocking to good use and show you why you're glad I'm on your side."
There was a slightly upward twitch of his lips when she said that monster types had to stick together. He liked the idea of having someone at his back. It was like the idea of pack.
"Come on, I'll show you," he said, starting to lead the way into the woods. "Despite their name, the Argents don't have a lot of silver."
Ironic, because their last name literally meant 'silver'.
"They fill bullets with wolf's bane, which is pretty effective against us, but probably not quite so much with you. The the grandfather uses a sword, and a couple of them use compound bows or crossbows, since we can't heal until we pull out the arrow. They also have a kanima. It's this thing like a were-lizard thing that has to serve a master, and it seems to be a bit tougher than werewolves. And it has venomous claws that can paralyze you."
Despite her shoes being completely inappropriate for the location, Ruby never stumbles as they trek through the woods. She keeps all her senses tuned into every scent and sound around them, all while takin in his words.
"Unless they have silver or UV bullets, I'm sure I'll be fine. And given they're hunting weres and not vampires, I doubt they're packing garlic. Do us a favor and stay out of range of those bullets? I may be strong, but there's no way I can haul three werewolves out of anywhere. The sword sounds like it might be a problem." After all, Blade used one of those with massive levels of success. "Never been shot with an arrow before, so that'll be new to me."
Of course, the Kanima was enough to give her pause. "A were-lizard? Oh joy. I bet he's pretty." A beat. "But for that toxin to spread, I wonder if a heart beat and blood flow is necessary... How effective is that? Is it a blood stream thing?"
She grins, fangs visible between glossed lips. "This is all starting to sound fun." She pauses. "You know I can't guarantee that they'll all make it out of this alive. The hunters, I mean. I might not be hungry, but if I need to... Let's just say I'm good at turning off my feelings."
"Believe me, I definitely don't plan on getting shot."
Of course, sometimes things happened that he couldn't help, but getting shot with those bullets was really something he wanted to avoid.
"I'm not sure if the blood stream makes a difference, but I know it's absorbed through the skin. Even if it doesn't circulate, it'll probably effect whatever part of you it touches."
As for them making it out of this alive...well, he didn't want to get them killed, but technically, it would be their own actions that controlled whether she killed them or not, right?
"I don't want to get anyone killed, but getting Boyd and Erica out safe are more important than anything else, right now."
And it was a hard choice to make, and he didn't like making it, but the Argents were the ones that put him in this position in the first place.
"Probably a good thing to add into the plan, yeah." She offers a smile. Worst case scenario, she could play vampire shield and take the hit for him. Maybe.
She takes a moment to think about it. "So we hope to god it doesn't touch anything I'm going to need to, y'know, get out of this with my head and hope that it needs blood flow to travel.
"Just so we're clear, my priority is to keep my own head. But like I said, we've got to stick together. If those hunters get in my way, I'll do whatever I have to. Are you prepared for that?"
After all, they just met. He didn't expect her to be willing to die for him, and while he didn't want to go into this planning on killing anybody, he knew that when fighting for survival, things could happen.
Pretty insane. [He paused, realizing that sooner or later if she went with him, she'd probably see him shift. So he decided to poke a little experimentally to make sure she wouldn't turn on him at a bad time.] They think they're werewolf hunters or something.
She knows when they've reached the spot; the smell of blood hits her like a tonne of bricks and she can feel the familiar burn in her throat as the thirst sets back in and she stores it to memory; the scent of blood and all the different scents underneath it; three male, two female. One she knew was Isaac's.
"Not that I can think of. I'll let you know." A beat. "Oh. You're name."
[He's glad to have the help, and even gladder that the truth secured her help. He wouldn't be getting a gun, mostly because he didn't know anything about shooting one. Besides, he had his claws, but having someone show up with a gun might catch the Argents by surprise.]

ooc: I figured tagging Isaac with Isaac would be pointless :)
