They.. [what was the word again?..] forage with other kinds of birds during the winter to help look out for danger and they eat bugs and even peanut butter but not candy. They have really strong beaks to help them break things open too.
Like an animal doctor?
[Furrowing her brow, she thinks about it for a second before going to her bag and pulling out a small case. Bringing it over, she opens it up.]
I tried to fix it but it wouldn't stay on and I was afraid of hurting him because he was yelling. Can you help, Sam?
I have never met a lawyer but reading is very good. He sounds really nice.
I would like that, please. Is she a doctor? [Ara took the box off of her table so she could put her friend back in it for the walk.] Can we put him back in his box? I do not want him to get scared.
If she is a scientist then I know she can. They can come up with all sorts of things. Is she human or a wolf too? [Tucking some of the scraps of bits and stuff from outside around him before her starting yelling again, she took his bag of food from the table and stuck it in the box with him too.] We are ready.
That sounds weird, but I will try it. [He was trustworthy enough, after all he ate ice cream. The logic was sound enough.]
Meeting new humans is nice too. I met a guard dog and a... Goth yesterday. [The woman made it sound like a species but she was really friendly though.]
Really? You are a lot more fun then some of the other adults so I like you too! Come on! [Ara takes hold of his arm and tugs him with her, again.]
Mmmhm, his name was Fozzie and he is good at digging holes. Isn't it important to make friends?
[She stops, holding her box in one arm and looks up at him.] You are. I think it is harder for adults sometimes too though because they always seem worried about things. [It was hard for her to explain at her size.]
My teachers make me read some things but I like books on medicine and how to build stuff best. Gavin said adventure books are fun too, but I haven't tried them yet.

[She takes hold of his hand and tugs him over to look at the funny bird.] I think he hurt himself, he was laying in the grass when I woke up.

[Sam follows with a smile on his face.] May I pick him up? My dad taught me a little bit about birds when I was younger.

You can but be careful please, I think he's scared. They get really loud. [Which is how she found her friend in the first place.]
He did?
no subject
[He was very careful and very gentle as he picked the bird up.]
Mostly about how their bones work and that sort of stuff.
[With a very soft touch he looks the bird over.]
Sweetpea, I think he's got a broken wing.

He was actually a lawyer. But we read a lot and I asked a lot of questions. He always made sure he could answer them.
I'm not sure if I can. But, I have a very good friend that is magic with animals. Want to come for a walk with me and we can take your bird to her?

She's a scientist but she knows a lot about animals. [Sam gently set the bird back in the box.] You should probably carry him.

Thank you for helping, Sam.

She's just human.
No need to thank me, sweetpea. I kinda like you.

[Sam gladly follows her down the street.] I try to be fun. Try to remember that it was hard to be a kid.

Where does your friend live?

We do worry a lot, but, that's an adult thing that kids shouldn't have to worry about.
Not too far. Have you ever been on the subway?

It's hard not too, growing up seems like an important thing.
No, I haven't. I usually get caught before I make it far. Is it fun?

It's important, sure. But don't do it before you're time. Be a kid.
I find it a little smelly but otherwise a lot of fun.

What do you like?
