[ And it's totally a real wolf, something about the eyes look more animal than human, at any rate. ]

I say we back away, very, very, very slowly and do not run.

Right. Very slowly. It'll just...wander away, right? I mean. No wolves here. [She's just going to take one step back. Very slowly.]

Right. Slow. Like a sloth. A very slow sloth.

[ Which doesn't really make sense since sloths were slow to begin with but whatever, it sounded good at the time. Slowly, slooooowly, he takes a few steps back, eyeing the wolf carefully. ]

Sloths are slow. [She gulps, taking a few more steps back.] Slower than a sloth would be...not moving. Which. Would be a bad idea. A really really bad idea.

Right, a point. Score for the young lady here. Okay, faster than a sloth, then.

[ At least the wolf hasn't moved yet, though it keeps watch. ]

No, they really, really aren't and I'm starting to feel like this is some twisted version of Red Riding Hood. Well, a more twisted version, considering the original version is pretty twisted.

I didn't want to die with someone I didn't know. [Optimistic one, isn't she? But then again, you wouldn't be optimistic either, staring down a wolf.]

[She glances back, lifting her foot to step over a branch.] Careful.

Perhaps finding the path would be the ideal course of action.

I'd like to not die at all, of course I say that pretty much every time I almost die.

[ He finds it kind of ironic that he's scared of a real wolf versus the werewolves he hangs around. ]

[ He opens and closes his mouth a few times. ] Huh, I never thought of it like that.

As long as the path leads away from the vicious carnivore over there.

...How often do you almost die? [She's giving you a really heavy side-eye right now, Stiles. She just got here, okay? She doesn't know you and your friends attract danger.]

Uh, quite a few actually, but I almost always make it out unscathed - almost. But this is the first time I've seen a real wolf like this...

[ He decides not to mention the werewolves, less people know about them the better. ]

[Note to self: stay. Away. From Stiles.] You get into near death situations...a lot...in a town surrounded by woods...and they rarely involve actual killer animals?

... Okay, I know how that probably sounds kind of bad, but I proooomise it's not as bad as it sounds and sometimes I may or may not exaggerate things a little so... yeah, don't always take my word for it.

[ Mary nods seriously, glad to have passed on a bit of literary knowledge. Even at a truly inappropriate time. She cranes her neck to see into a clearing of trees, her ears alert. ]

I'll be sure not to do that. [Really, she thinks that if they were going to get killed and eaten, it would have happened already, so she's starting to relax a little. Although, that's usually what happens right before people get killed and eaten, so.]

I'd say they're pretty good. Wolfy there doesn't seem to want to eat us, so as long as we don't make any sudden moves or break out running, we should be good.

We're not that far from town either.

[ He grins a little. ]

Well then, that sounds like a good enough plan for me. I'd really like to be away from that before it gets dark and hungry and decides I'm meaty enough for dinner.

I had only meant to go for a walk, not be something's dinner.

[ She half smiles at him before turning to walk in the direction she's indicated. So much for some time away from home. Her mother would likely have a fit and blame Mary for her lack of observational skills. She's oddly calm about this whole thing. ]

I don't suppose it would accept my saying that I would not taste very good.
