It gets drowned out by sex in general. Romance is an art, sex is a staple.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. Sex can be its own artform. Actually I'd say that the fact that romance novels contain sex as a rule is one of the reasons it's not very "highly viewed" in literary circles. You know, it's not porn but it's still a bit filthy.

I was referring to books but I'd say it could be applied to life as well.

I think it depends on what a person defines romance as.

More than one person in this case. What makes up a genre rarely falls under one person's definitions.

Because most of it is insultingly purile and gets in the way of the story.

It sounds like you are interested in that sort of entertainment. Why are you so concerned about whether other people like the romance genre?

Because I'm a writer myself. Not of romance but it still brings these kind of issues closer to home. Also I like romance so seeing it dismissed as something that at best can be a 'guilty pleasure' bothers me. Both on a personal and a professional level.

Not really, Time Lords had low sex drives. *He rolls his eyes.* And to be honest, they were the sort of bores who don't write fiction of any kind. I miss the planet, but the people were generally dull as dirt.

Yep. I think you hit the nail straight on the head there. And it sucks.

And when it comes to writing, there's no way I will ever be able to separate the two. Not if I want to be able to keep at it and I think I'd rather die than give it up. It's my life.
