Usually, it doesn't take much to guess what's on someone's mind, if you know them well enough. I'm getting the feeling that isn't going to happen in some cases.
Do my administrative skills account for anything, sir? [She grins a tiny bit, reaching into her desk to procure the little bottle of wine.] The vendor said to only take a few teaspoons of this, but I can never remember. Teaspoon or swig, which is the smaller amount?
I'm going to have to say teaspoon. [Out of the sick bay he's not going to say a thing against it, but that bottle better not show up elsewhere. To be honest, Bones is a little surprised that she has it in the first place.]
It was a welcome back present from some of my girlfriends. Apparently strong stuff. [She shrugs, looking down at the bottle in her hands. Slowly turning it over, she frowns a bit. Nostalgia...] I was saving it for some time when I felt a stiff one was in order, but today you look like you need it more than me.
[She holds the bottle out to him.] Have some and lets talk. You look like you've got a lot on your mind right now. Is everything okay?
Well, now I really feel like an ass. I haven't got you anything. [He takes the bottle from her, but sets it on the desk for them moment.]
Not enough to justify that, how about we save it for the next really bad day. [And there would be one. There was bound to be.] I'm glad enough to have to back, Chapel.
Then lets just talk. [She ignores the bottle now, in favor of him. Taking her chair, she scoots forwards a bit.] You didn't have to get me anything. My old job is enough. I missed you, McCoy. What's got you down past your usual gruff?
We're heading off into the great unknown, finally. I guess I'm just on edge, more so than usual. The little quirks are starting to get to me. [It's probably a really good thing that Chapel is back actually. He couldn't imagine five years of this crew without her.]
One of your fellow Vulcans, as it so happens. He likes to throw around that 'L' word a lot too. I'm beginning to suspect it's a bit of an obsession with you people.
That must be it. Look... I don't even know what to call you.
This isn't the first time it's been brought to my attention that I'm going to have to make some adjustments for non-human behavior. It's just easier said than done.
