Are you sure, because last time did not end well, you know. [Except this was Uhura - she could make everything work out.] I fell on my ass climbing up that damn ladder and I'm not looking forward to doing that again.
((ooc: Thank you~! I'm glad to be back truthfully.))
I'll be right behind you. I promise you won't fall. [At least there hadn't been any real harm done, it wasn't easy, climbing in a place that wasn't designed for them.]
[She bites her lip in hesitation, then gives in with a nod.]
You'd think being on a spaceship would erase any fears of heights, [Slowly she walks towards the rickety looking ladder. It's made of wood and tied together with bits of rope and cloth - who knows how old it is. Who knows how old anything is on this planet.] But when I'm on the ground, there's always this little fear eating at the back of my mind. [Chapel pauses just a moment before exhaling and taking the first few steps up the ladder.]
It makes sense. We can't exactly control the gravity on a planet the way we do on a ship.
[This place certainly wasn't geared toward the advancement of technology. Though they had yet to come across any local lifeforms, they'd have to be careful of their own devices too.]
[One step, then another. Slowly she climbs and wishes for a quick and painless death if she falls. Probably at this height nothing more than a broken bone would happen, but the embarrassment wouldn't leave for days.]
Spock was sure the aliens here would respond to us being girls - being their matriarchal society, right? I mean, he was positive?
Were you looking to establish a kingdom of your own here, Chris? [Uhura grins, safely from the ground. She'll wait until her friend has reached the top before she makes the attempt.]
At the very least, they'll be inclined not to harm us. So we've got that going for us.
Oh yes. My own queendom with all the guys of the Enterprise as my own personal slaves. Yes, that's exactly it. [She rolls her eyes, but laughs anyway. Uhura was such a tease.
Making it tot he top ledge, she lets out a loud sigh of relief and climbs off the ladder. Turning she looks back down at the other woman.] Your turn. If you can make it I'll give you a really good spot in my queendom.
As if they weren't already. [Giving her friend the most innocent look she could muster, which wasn't every, Uhura reached out and began the climb.]
First Knight, then. Head of my own small army. [There is a steely look that, even while joking, clues into the possibility that Uhura could handle that position well.]
[Chris can't help the grin. Of course, it's not something she'd pick for Uhura, but it was fitting.
However before she could reply, she noticed a shadow behind the woman on the ground. Squinting, Chris held a hand up to shield the alien sun from her eyes before her jaw dropped open and she pointed.] Hey - there's something behind you and it's got some rather big teeth! Hurry!
What? [Though even as she turns to look over her shoulder, she begins climbing faster. Which is difficult on such a poorly designed ladder.
They'd discussed all the different possibilities of contact with the local culture, but one thing they seem to have glossed over was the potential for native animals to get them. Great.]
Chris, pull me up! [Uhura looks up for help, scrambling to reach her crew mate and feeling the sharp pain of something slicing into her leg. Uhura isn't afraid to admit, she's screaming.]
Okay, okay--! [She takes another glance at the beast, tiger, thing and then lunges towards the edge. She reaches down to grab for the woman's hands. Curse herself for being too short in this situation.
Scooting herself further, she tries to balance and reach for her friend at the same time. Chris carefully braces herself with one hand against the ladder's pole and hopes to any living God out there that it doesn't give way while she's grabbing for Uhura.
She didn't want to have to pull out a stungun and shoot the animal, even if it was just to stun. Who knows how that would affect it?]
Yes. Just- [It's only a little further up and Uhura stretches to reach her friend's hand, kicking out at the beast as she climbs up. It helps having someone to pull her in, and as soon as Uhura collapses up on the ledge, she goes for the ties on the ladder.]
We're going to have to drop this, in case it can climb too.
