[Spock doesn't contradict him.] Violence is at odds with my culture and with the way I was raised.
[If Spock's mother could see him now, his knuckles still bruised, coloured a dark yellow, jaundiced even after three weeks of healing, he's certain she'd be... Not ashamed. He'd done what he'd had to. But she would have been disturbed. Probably as unsettled as Spock feels now.] Under normal circumstances, I would find it distasteful.
*He was going to go back to ribbing him but if it's going to be so serious.. Kirk makes a show of a sigh and claps his shoulder, meeting his eyes.*
Being at odds with violence is a good thing. But some people, some beings aren't. So then it's necessary, am I right? *His culture though, humans, being much more emotional can engage in violence much easier. He understands that. But that means that they comfort a friend in distress too.*
Sometimes, a little violence is needed to get the job done. [ Mal pauses. ] Or a lot of violence is needed. I would prefer things to happen without resortin' to violence, but sometimes the forces of nature don't workin' in my favor.
Because I've wanted to have fun with this face and ST Canon XD
Necessary, perhaps, but -- [It isn't like Spock not to know what to say, to stumble over hastily considered words and, rather than embarrassing himself trying to find them again, Spock resigns himself to silence. His mouth shuts with an audible click, his eyes falling to the space between them.]
Nature? [The barest furrow between his up-swept eyebrows mars Spock's otherwise impassive expression.] Surely nature's way is to find harmony in chaos.
[There can be nothing more unnatural to Spock than a rage so all-consuming as to rip away his fine veneer of logic and reason. Brutality is as foreign to him as green blood and red sand are to Captain Reynolds. And yet...]
[Spock's eyes fall to his knuckles, counting only three where there should have been four. The knuckle of his middle finger is concave, collapsed and snapped out of place where it met the bone of a cheek or a chin. There were so many blows exchanged, Spock can't quite remember how it happened. It had come so easily to him.] I've never known nature to be vengeful. Only careless.
It had come easily at the time. [Spock's expression, tellingly, doesn't change. His eyes are carefully blank, cold where a moment ago there had been at least some semblance of warmth, of concern. His hands, his fingers still absently exploring his bruised, half-healed knuckles, don't shake.]
[But something in his voice, a fine, barely noticeable trembling that brings it an octave lower, carries with it a definite threat. Promising that, if tested, such violence could well squirm its way out of him again, like letting poison from a wound.]
Nature ain't exactly as peaceful and harmonious as people like to think it is. You know, kill, or be killed. Then again we ain't animals. We've got somethin' that keeps us from sinkin' that low. You know, morals. [ Morals and Mal aren't exactly the greatest of friends, and Mal tended to bend the concept of morals to suit his needs. ]
[ Mal looked down at other man's busted hand, and he put his hand to his chin. The guy seemed a bit off, but he's seen many different things while out there but the odd color blood on Spock's finger gets a raised eyebrow from Mal and his eyes go to meet with the other man. The ears and eyebrows were easy for him to explain in his mind. ] You might want to get a doc to look at that. [ He may have been talking about the blood or smashed up knuckle. ]
Careless? I know enough about that. Vengeful? That's just how people are, and sometimes I think somethin' has it out for some of us.
Shaun is holding his quickly bruising left eye, grimacing in pain while peering in bewilderment at the man with the pointy ears. "So do I! What the bloody 'ell was that for?!"
OOC: Haven't seen new Star Trek yet! Also can't remember much about the first Star Trek reboot, as it's been a while since I've seen it. But just had to have Shaun tag Spock 'cause Shaun is obviously Scotty's doppelgänger. :P)

Actions speak louder than words.
[Meaning he doesn't believe Spock when he uses the word "detest."]
{{OOC: I have seen the movie, FYI}}

OMG, yes! This is amazing!

XD
That's the problem with emotions. They can make you do things you normally wouldn't.
[His own tone is matter-of-fact.]
