[ enjoying Independence Day festivities around town. ]

I should have guessed I'd run into you here. Please tell me you're here of your own free will and they do not have you giving speeches and making appearances on your birthday of all days.

"Hey Steve... Wanna head over to Coney Island and watch the fireworks? My treat." He smiles brightly at the man.

"Sure. Hot dogs are my treat, though." They can split the cost, right?

[ Steve turns around, holding a small plate of cake, a forkful halfway between it and his mouth. He might look vaguely guilty. ]

America's birthday is a big thing, and I generally don't celebrate mine, ma'am.

[Poor Steve, Janet's timing is pretty perfect. She'll refrain from laughing, but little snort that comes out of her is another story.]

This is true, but I hope you're at least having fun.

Bucky tosses the metal arm around Steve, "AH pal, you don't gotta pay for crap, it's your birthday remember?" He grins.

Like that's going to end the argument. "Rock, paper, scissors for it?"

[ An eyebrow raises at the sound she makes. ]

Hard not to. Look how happy everyone is.

[ He inclines his head towards the bandstand playing classic rock, then finishes taking his bite. ]

"Nope." He says flagging them down a cab and man handling Steve inside. "You're birthday my treat, not the only one who got a mountain of back pay, and I got sorry no one looked for you pay too." He laughs softly. "Anyway, it's your birthday, I've never let you pay on your birthday." He grins. "I left your gifts at the tower though."
