[New York was a big, confusing city. She'd told Hatter that several times when he insisted that he could navigate the city on his own, that it had taken her several years before she could do so. But he was stubborn, and probably suffering from cabin fever in this new land, so she let him go.]
[It turned out to be a wise decision when she turned on the GPS before she gave him a phone to use. He had set out at ten in the morning, and the sun was now just starting to set. Seriously, how this man managed to get so lost that he ended up in Queens is a complete mystery. She honked her horn a bit, before pulling over to the side and rolling down her window.] You lost, sir? [She asked, with a barely contained grin.]
[With great - entirely feigned - dignity he replied;] I am not lost. I'm exploring.
[Now admittedly he wasn't entirely clear on precisely where the area he was presently exploring was located in relation to the area he started out exploring. But there was no need to go getting bogged down in petty little details. This New York (he was intrigued to know what they'd done with the old one, and if it was any more sensibly designed) might have been oddly flat, but it was also very square, and he was reasonably confident that if he kept going in a straight line long enough he'd get back to somewhere he recognised]
Right. [She'd half believe him if she didn't know him. He could probably fake his way through the entirety of the city completely lost and every native would believe that he knew exactly where he was headed, thanks very much. In that sense, Hatter fit right in here. Fake it till you make it, that's New York.]
[Still, Alice couldn't keep an amused grin off of her face.] Want to keep exploring? More lasagna for me, then. I'll just, turn around -
...oh well that's different. If there's lasagna [How very kind of you, Alice, to have given him an out. When you'd been pretending to know exactly what you're doing for as long as he had it became a hard habit to break.] I suppose I'll just have to take this up again tomorrow.
(if I am annoying you scare me off k)
