"Thank you," she sighed as she got the drink from his hands and took a small sip. She smiled at the food remark, "they always have the best here." Which was true, but Laurel just felt so uncomfortable, she had attended plenty of charities alone before, but this was just awkward. However, Tommy must be looking out for her since Bart appeared and been hanging out with her. He was adorable so made the night more bearable.
"You could just want till the last people leave and see if you can get a plate of leftovers?" she pointed out.
He smiled for a second, nodding his head in agreement before reaching into his hoodie pocket and started to eat another fancy snack. Her idea earned another vigorous head nod as his eye light up. After quickly chewing the bacon covered treat his eyes scanned the food tables and when he turned back to her there was mischief in his eyes.
"Oh man that is a freaking sweet idea...but why wait?!"
Bart winked at her as he carefully slipped the edge of a large plastic bag out of his hoodie to show her.
"Gotta love Ziploc! When Ollie mentioned this shindig I was skeptical at first but he had to go an mention the sweet spread and when he told me that you'd be here I figured I just couldn't pass up the invite! Oh...wait, not that I meant, well...uh, I didn't mean that the food was more important then seeing you or anything. Would've come even if there wasn't some awesome eats!"
His rambling paused as he blushed slightly and looked away for a moment. After regaining his train of thought he chuckled again as he looked back over and smiled.
"So you should've seen the look on that guy's face! The one at the door who is checking invites...he was all snooty and stuff bout me wearing my hoodie, tried to tell me that there was a dress code, but I showed him though!"
Bart's smile grew again as he quickly unzipped his bright red hooded sweat shirt, and revealed a ever so classy tuxedo tee shirt hidden beneath.
"I love it!" she proclaimed as she looked over at this shirt, "You did show them." She chuckled, Bart was just a breeze of fresh air for Laurel, she had been stuck in a rut with death of Tommy, things with Oliver were still tense, but she was here trying to as if nothing was wrong, even if everything else was.
She didn't remarked on his slight blush or the comment about food being over her, because she didn't think it was something to comment. Although it was nice to know he liked her, she liked him, Bart seemed to make the broken woman smile without her realizing it.
Oh, Chloe does that crap to me all the time. Every time I turn around, she's dragging me off to some weird formal thing. It'd be different if I could just show up in jeans and a t-shirt or something.
I don't mind dressing up, I actually love to dress up. It's just, sometimes
you are not in the mood for something and you have to do it anyways. That
kind of how I am right now.
He flexed for her for a moment, chuckling as he watched her smile. "Thought the dude was going to have a stroke right there, but it all worked out just..."
Bart stopped mid sentence as a waitress walked right by them, but instead of checking out the attractive woman, his gaze seemed to have locked onto the tray of crab cakes she carried. With a sheepish grin he waved her over and winked at her as the tray was suddenly in his hand.
"Hey thanks chica! This should be good for now but could you do me a favor and see if they have any more of those little cheesy things?"
He turned back to Laurel, smiling as the stunned waitress looked down at her empty hands for a moment before walking away...unsure of what just happened.
"Oh man Laurel, you gotta try one of these, they are so freaking good!"
Laurel was laughing, but she was trying to hide it till the waitress walked away dazed and confused. "You remind me so much of Oliver when he was a teenager," she commented as she sat her glass on a empty spot on the tray and got crab cake, with one hand under the other she took a bite.
"Oh..." she breathed, "this is very good." She looked very impressed, "Good find, Bart."
Bart eyed her for a moment at the mention of reminder her of a teenager but shrugged it off and offer a small smile as he polished off another crab cake.
"I know right?! Was just glad they had another tray of these thing around...sorta finished off the first tray earlier!"
She didn't mean to be offensive by her comment, Laurel loved how Oliver was, when he was with her. She reached for another cake, ate it and then reached for her glass taking a small sip. "There's most likely more in the kitchen, Queen have a habit of over ordering," like she did, but Laurel wasn't going to reveal that.
Nodding her head at a few people, Laurel offered polite smiles, "I don't know why some of the people are here, all they have done is just talk about Moira."
"Oh man...don't think I brought a big enough ziploc!"
Bart grinned again as he finished another crab cake and gently nudged her with his shoulder as he nodded to her purse. "So uh...how much do you think you can carry in that sucker?" He tried to hold a straight face but started to laugh as he winked at her.
The mention of Moira caught his attention and Bart leaned closer as he spoke in a quieter tone.
"You mean my purse?" she asked shooting him Look, but then arched a brow,
"Oliver mom,." Laurel look at him oddly then, but then why would she be
shocked, Oliver wasn't one to be personal with anyone, even her are times.
"It's been all over the new, not sure how you could miss it, Bart." Laurel
said softly, "people are blaming her for what happen in the Glades."
He sets the tray down and holds his hands up in mock surrenders as an innocent look crosses his face. "Just kidding bout your purse! Well...sorta kidding, no worries I'm sure I can find a container round her to grab a little take out."
The mention of Ollie's mom and the Glades doesn't ring any bells and Bart just shrugs his shoulders. "Huh, I mean I knew he had a mom, just never talked bout her before...and I don't watch tv, always preferred to be out and about instead stuck in front of the tube."
"The Glades is within the city, rough part of time, there was an
undertaking that went down, due to..a friend father wanting to revenge his
wife death and clean the city, huge mess, I'm shocked that you haven't
heard anyone talk about it, all the rave," she rolled her eyes, "the person
missing, so she's getting the blame for the whole ordeal."
Looking around, she wondered where Thea was. "Have you seen his sister?"
"Wow, that is freaking messed up! Dude never mentioned a peep bout any of this. I mean I know the guy plays it close the the chest but still...wait, Ollie has a sister?!"
Bart scanned the room quickly but honestly he had no clue what a sister of Ollie's would even remotely look like.
This worried her a little, had Laurel said too much, but everyone knew
Thea, by her own right, "Um," she shrug her shoulders, "I don't see her
here," she said softly, "if you are looking for her, she'd be back at the
house."
"That is a family trait," she laughed lightly and then shook her head "no,
Thea is nothing like him, well...the family is all around good looking,
sickening really." Laurel was teasing, "Thea is a very pretty young woman."
Laurel giggled at the thought herself, "He'd never do it," that she was
certain off, "Well, never say never, but I can't see him being in a dress
myself."
Shaking her head she finished off her drink and sat the empty glass on a
tray that walked by.
