[The kid was living in a trailer down by the river. It was obvious society placed him a bit lower than anyone wearing a suit, even though he'd gotten a scholarship to a decent school from his skill as a violinist. Of course, he also lost said scholarship when he got into a fight at school.]

Don't know, but I'm pretty sure I'm lower on the food chain than you.

[And more than just the proverbial one, considering the fact that he was a Reinigen, a rat creature of sorts, and only appeared human. And naturally, among the supernatural sorts, he was at the bottom of the food chain. Of course, he was definitely free on both fronts, but he didn't realize that this man wasn't.]
