How can they still think they're being secretive, at all?
[Speaking of which, Bones gets the hint. He reaches out to capture Jane's hands before she makes the adorable whiny noises that would usually follow.]
Probably two weeks ago, but then I had that emergency appendectomy. [Sliding to sit on his desk with a little more dignity, he settles one arm behind her.]
Yeah, she could. And she would do it without terrifying them.
[Jane grins against his shoulder. She missed him. Lately the only time they got to talk was for mission briefs and when she gets hurt. It's not the same. It's not even close.]
Off-hand I can think of at least five things worse than that we could have.
[Take it up with Spock. He draws up the duty roster, Jane just signs off on it and tries not to argue with the scary Vulcan.
But if this keeps up another month, she will. It's not even in question. Jane physically cannot run on full power without her best friend. Man, I need to get you on the bridge more often.
[Jane hops into his desk, pushing his padd aside.]
