Quint has absolutely no idea what's going on. But when one visits a new location and it seems strangely abandoned except for one person in a hurry to get away from it, it's usually a good idea to do the same. He'll start running too, though it doesn't do much for the confusion.
Right behind ya, Doctor. [After all, he has no more desire to get caught than the Doctor does. He likes all his limbs where they belong.] Any idea what set that thing off?
A bit? [He spares a quick glance back for the thing chasing them, and whistles.] If that's a bit, I'd hate to see what it looks like when that thing's really angry. Are we TARDIS-bound?
Quint certainly doesn't. But he doesn't want anyone else to, either. Despite being small he has no trouble keeping up - in fact, he might seem a bit faster than would be expected for a human child... and he takes advantage of that to try to make sure no one else they come across ends up falling behind.
He still has no idea what's going on, but he doesn't need to know to not want anyone hurt by it.
A rock bounces by and then another and more, these are large rocks that
start smashing into the houses. "Last time I don't check before I do
something," the Doctor muses out loud.
Quint's preference for staying incognito and 'playing human' when timeline-hopping gets in a brief mental fight with his dislike of seeing people unnecessarily hurt, and loses quite badly.
A split second and a flicker of light later and he's in armor. Silently cursing that he doesn't have a plasma buster to use on those rocks, and that Sakugarne is not suited to this situation, at least the armor provides dash system access as well as some protection.
"What did you do??" he asks, as he shoves over a streetlight pole in passing so that it takes the impact of an incoming rock.
"Well, then I guess we should just be glad the chunks of rock aren't on fire," Quint says. He's not as strong or large as some of his siblings, or he'd try throwing abandoned cars at the rocks. As it is, he occasionally tries to deflect incoming projectiles with smaller objects.
I don't think talking is what its got in mind. [But he doesn't argue, speeding to match the Doctor's pace, running for the safety of the ship. He gets there just a step behind the Doctor, turning to watch the creature get closer, and wishes he had his blaster on him, but- well, the Doctor's not a big fan of guns...]
Did I say I was going to shoot it? [Okay, so he was thinking it, but he didn't say it! He follows the Doctor in, shutting the door quickly behind them, and moves toward the console.] Okay, so next steps? What've ya got in mind?
[It makes his skin itch just walking back into the TARDIS, but he's quick to move to the console, to fawn over it, to fawn over the ship that's never going to really be his again.]
Give me some credit- I left my blaster here on purpose. [See. It's sitting with his jacket halfway across the console room.] After you, then- the sooner we get that thing taken care of, the better. [Whether they're shooting it, or talking it down.]
What're you- [And then the Doctor jumps. His eyes wide, he wrestles with the controls at the console, keeping her in place, staring with just a touch of panic and concern out the door at the creature.]
[There is no answer for a very, very, very long time but soon there is a
huge gloppy cough and the Doctor is spit out of the blob and tumbles to the
floor of the TARDIS covered in slime.]
[The moment the Doctor's thrown back on board, Jack's locking the controls and darting to the doors, throwing them shut behind him. Then he turns, moving to the Doctor's side, ready to help him if needed.] You know, most conversations don't involve getting swallowed by the other party. You alright?
If he hadn't been busy trying to deflect the occasional rock and make sure no one fell behind, Quint might have been more curious about that. After all, it seemed a little inland for a ship, and a little early for common use of spacecraft outside of exploration agencies.
But given that one of his recent trips was a Steampunk world, he'll just shove any mental questions down until he sees what's there. "Right."
The Doctor can hear the hesitation in the boy's voice and he just smiles as
they reach the crest and a battered old blue police box comes into view.
"There she is my ship," he calls out with no small amount of pride.
Easiest way to get him to listen. [The Doctor chokes and spits out more
slime sounding a bit annoyed,.] I'm fine no need to fuss...just ruined
another jumper.
(had to go check an old RP from 2009 to make sure names weren't mentioned. XD)
Several thoughts pass through in a split second. The first simply identifies the indicated object as an ancient - from Quint's personal perspective - British police call box. The second is that it's in a very odd spot for one. The third is that he's seen one of these before, in his various multiversal travels. That grey lady with the red veil...
He's pretty sure this particular blue police box is not the same one, given what that one had asked of him... but it's enough to let him know that it really is a ship of some sort, and that it - she - is a lot bigger on the inside than on the outside. So he wastes no time in making sure people head that way.
Re: (had to go check an old RP from 2009 to make sure names weren't mentioned. XD)
The Doctor skids to a stop in front of the box and fumbles with his key
finally managing to get the door wide open. He dashes inside waving at the
group behind him. "Come on then, come on....hurry up you lot not much time
left."
Re: (had to go check an old RP from 2009 to make sure names weren't mentioned. XD)
"Don't worry, it's bigger inside than out! Hurry!" Quint tries to rush them along as well. He just hopes none of them start going into shock just yet, between the disaster, being asked to 'crowd' themselves into a 1950's police call box, and his armor... not to mention some of the things he's done.
Re: (had to go check an old RP from 2009 to make sure names weren't mentioned. XD)
The Doctor jogs down to the end of the group and urges those lagging behind
to hurry. He scoops up a little girl and runs ahead her worried mother
running alongside him. "Just a few more," he calls.
Quint doesn't bother to think if the message had been for him or the others, had meant just a few more people or just a few more meters to the blue police call box. He just focuses on helping an old man whose arthritis had been slowing him down, and watching for any more incoming debris.

[The Doctor looks back and winces and speeds up.] Yes I need to talk to it and the TARDIS will get us close enough.

[Nine turns to the young man and gives him a firm look.]
We've done what we came to do...to stay would just be cruel.

The Doctor blinks in a huh move. "I tried to stop a volcano and started an avalanche instead.

"How far away do you think we need to get?"

[Of course, Johnny already knows this. Putting on a false concern,]
We could at least console a few people, make 'em feel better.

It might help more than you think lad.......shooting things isn't always the answer.
