Dear child, how lovely to see you again. Come in and sit down, do.
[He fusses among the tins of tea behind the counter, selecting among them with deliberation.]
I'm not sure I'd say that. Did you know that the tea plant, Camellia sinensis, originated in China? Lovely people, the Chinese. They were brewing this long before the English adopted it.
Which reminds me - do you have a preference for what tea you'd like to try?
*Not enough Whovians know the Gallifrey Series XD - I still need 5 :( so no spoilers, please *
[Romana sits, looking momentarily confused at the "see you again" comment. Had she been here before? {After all, the perception filter works against all Time Lords, right?}]
I did know that. The D... a friend had spent time explaining to me the history of tea. As to kinds... I shall trust what you offer. I travel in order to experience new things.
[Or because, there is an effort to cure the Anti-Time virus...]
[Ooops. He's been in this place and time too long. Time for a little damage control.]
Don't say you've forgotten me? George Astor, at your service. I own this little establishment. [He smiles.] I never forget a customer.
Something new for a travelling lady. Now that is a challenge, and I do enjoy a challenge. Let me see.
[He starts to select a few types of tea to blend. That one . . . no, it brews best at a different temperature to the rest. Ahh, that one.]
Would you care to regale me wth a few tales of your adventures? I must admit that I love listening to stories; it lets me experience the wonders of the world, if only vicariously.
[A flash of confusions flickers across Romana's features, as she is quite certain she had never been in this establishment before. But a human's ability to remember things is not the most reliable.]
Oh, my life isn't so adventurous. Though, I have been told I have an over-active imagination.
[Because most humans aren't ready to hear about aliens.]
Then would you care to tell a few stories of your adventures of the mind? I hardly think those are any less fascinating than what we call 'real life'. Reality as we know it has unending wonders, but the gift of imagination brings us beyond that.
[The teas he's selected and measured are spooned deftly into the infuser just as the little blue light on his variable-temperature water heater brightens.]
[Romana retells her adventures in Paris, minus mentions of the TARDIS and the Doctor. She does leave in information about time-travel and how the artist seemed aware of her sensitivities to time.]
Iced? Well, that's a challenge all by itself. Getting the balance of infused tea to ice correct so that the flavours bloom on the tongue . . . ah, don't mind me. I really will go on all day about tea if you don't stop me.
Would you prefer your iced tea plain, with sugar, or flavoured? We have peach, mint, and lemon ready for consumption, or I could brew up something a little different if you prefer.
My dear lady, that is a very subjective statement. Depending on the tea, it may not be difficult, but it does not make it any less of an art. Why, I wonder, do we only place value on the difficult things? Great accomplishments should be celebrated, yes, but that doesn't mean that people have nothing to offer if they find things easy. I dare say Leonardo da Vinci found inventing things relatively easy, but do we dispute his genius?
Surprise you? Very well, I shall endeavour to do so.
[Fortunately, she's on one of the comfy leather sofas at the back of the tea/coffee shop, and the solid oak coffee table has seen far worse than a pair of shoes in its day.]
[He putters around behind the counter for a few minutes - it's a slow day, and aside from a couple of regulars there aren't many people here. After a few minutes, a steaming cup of tea emerges, carried by the man who calls himself George Astor in this time and place.]
Yes. [ Castiel listens to The Guardian give a very upbeat discussion on tea. He hates the thought of telling him that he likes the stuff that comes in a canon.
At least, there is an option for flavors and sugar. Raising his hand up in the air, he gives it some thought. ] I would like lots of sugar and some lemon, please.
sorry for delay, things turned busy sunday night and yesterday :(
[She looks at him strangely, though. As if there were some flash of recognition. Tea has healing properties, after all. But she shakes the feeling away, she must have imagined it.]
[Excuse you, these combat boots are far more than just shoes and the Doctor's very proud of them. Even if they clash horribly with her nice green blouse and khakis.
She waits surprisingly patiently and takes the tea, inhaling the curls of steam.] Ooh, smells good.
[Her response after her first sip is almost comical. Her eyes widen with delight and she grins.] It's excellent! What is it?

It is indeed. One that seems only those in England have successfully mastered.
*squeals at your Romana*

Why don't you see how that compares to Parisian tea?
