[Feline feet, don't fail him now. Jake decides the best way to observe this creature in its natural habitat...is from the highest point possible. Namely, a tree.]
-movement.scent.a prey scent.rush.roar.run at the tree. tear a limb off. splinter it. too heavy. can't get up. can't get high enough. growl. growl. rumble. growl.-
Oh boy... [He mumbles to himself. This was going to be difficult to get out of. He watches the large beast prowling around the base of the tree for a moment or two.
There's a stick down at the base of the tree as well. Jake's collar glows....and the stick slowly floats up in the air. Hopefully to catch the attention of the creature bent on eating him for lunch.]
[Not quite bird. Bird and something else, but not human either. He inches closer and hisses questioningly, tilting his head at the dog-lizard-thing. AMMUT?!?]
[Maybe-Ammut. He knows her! Good dog-lizard-thing. Very smart. Knows lots of things, SEES lots of things. Eats lots of things. He flaps his wings and lands on her back, making himself comfortable there.]
[ Contrary to monsters of myth, Ethan's heart beat, he was very much alive, the differences were in his genetics, but no doubt animals sensed things differently. Although the hound's hostility wasn't doing much to endear it to him just now. Hence his scowl over the newspaper he'd been reading. ]
[She's not afraid. She plants her feet and only loosely holds her pearl-handled revolve down at her side, staring it straight in the face. Perhaps she is a little afraid, but she doesn't run. The revolver's loaded with silver bullets, just in case this isn't just some especially large dog, just in case it's the creature all who have seen it claimed it to be. A rosary is wound around her right arm-- the one not holding the gun-- the tiny silver Christ swinging in betrayal of the slight shake of her limbs.]
[She takes a sideways step, opposite the thing's pacing. Interesting change in color. She'll want some of those scales as a sample, if she can get it.]
[Well this was not one of our brighter ideas, was it, Evangeline? She thinks as she is bowled over, emptying the revolver, aiming straight for the things face as they roll into the dirt.]
[ The nip prompted a warning thump on the nose, the vampire's scowl deepening. He was all for giving animals the benefit of the doubt, but if the mutt put holes in his expensive wardrobe, there was going to be hell to pay. ]

You're certainly a big...whatever you are.
[Thankfully he didn't make it as high as Jake did. So now, Jake will just wait till he abandons the chase. He wouldn't stay down there long...right?]

[ The vampire bared his own fangs and snarled right back. Then muttered to himself, rolling his eyes. ]
