Well, at least if you did everything you could ... then there isn't anything to regret, really. That might not be the answer you want to hear, but its the truth.
Feel like talking about it or would you rather just not go there?
((It's difficult work, but challenging and rewarding. I'm still certified and I worked as a volley for a while, then life got in my way and I had no time for it anymore.))
I know. Me and Sam (my partner on shift), we know what it's like but it tends to sting more when they're so young... *sighs* It's been a while since we've lost a young one. I forgot how much it hits...
Last time? Not really. I went to counselling but it didn't really help... still get nightmares.
((Indeed. I say I'm looking to be, but at the moment nowhere is recruiting so I don't think it wise for me to go to uni to get trained up, if I don't have a job at the end of it (I mean I have a Psychology degree, but no one will give me a job *sighs*)))
My Dad has said "You can't save everyone, sometimes the best you can do is control the bleeding."
It's tough, when your in the business of savings lives ... It's easier to look at the things that didn't go well and beat yourself up over it. You always feel guilty because you were there and you had ability to help. On the other hand, you must have done things that have helped people too. Think about that a bit, let it console you.
I used to be a student. I have A-Levels in English, History and Russian. I enjoyed it, but I've always wanted to be a paramedic. Ever since I was 5 years old. I love helping people, knowing that I make a difference to people's lives. Yes, sometimes it's hard but most of the time it's rewarding.
Helping people is great. It makes you feel good in ways very few things can match.
Seems like everyone in the business has down times. As long as you know that you are making a difference and you don't let the bad times keep you from continuing to do good, you'll be okay.
My girl is proud of me. My family are too. Hell, I'm proud of myself. It's just sometimes it does get you down, when things don't go as they should do, or you don't get there faster than you should have.
We got stuck in traffic you see, and despite our sirens we couldn't get through it fast enough, there was nowhere for the other cars to go *sighs and rubs his eyes*
::a look somewhere between thoughtful and frowning comes over his face::
That's really unfortunate.
I don't really know much about being an medic, but it seems that sometimes even if you get there quick and do everything you can ... there will be times when you lose the patient anyway.
Most of the time though, you do manage to get there in time, you do save the person and the day..it's just the times you don't, and usually they're the ones that tend to stick with you the longest *smiles a little, sadly*
Me neither, but I do like to unwind in a pub on occasion- or what ever passes for a pub when I'm away from London.
Blast cars. They should make it harder t' get a license, then there'd be less on the road and those that drove them would actually know how t' drive them.
I mean no offense to your girlfriend or what ever when I say this, but I think it'd be almost worse t' loose a working partner. I know it'd near t' kill me.
Course I've never been that seriously involved with a guy, but I've lost blokes I've been interested in, dated, snogged. I've made it through. But if the day ever comes when I loose the Professor...

Thats very true. Doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't try.
((Couldn't resist this thread, mun is an EMT))

I helped quite a few people yesterday, including an old lady named Joyce *smiles a little* She was sweet. Said I was a good lad.
Name's Matt *holds out his hand* I'm a paramedic for Royal London.

::He hesitated for a moment. Telling people that he was a wizard in training often didn't go over well::
I'm a student at the moment, but my father is in the life saving business too. I want to be able to help save people too, you know ... someday.

That makes your job really tough.

We couldn't get through the traffic, there was nowhere else for the cars to go. By the time we'd got there, Sam and me, she'd lost too much blood...

Who was Sam?

I agree. It was so difficult. Same is my partner. We travel in twos. She's been my partner ever since I started working as a paramedic.

It was hard, yes, we've both been through so much together.
