[Looks up and over at Stiles.] Ironic seeing as transforming means that I'll partially change out of my skin.
[Resumes looking at the big rock not far from where he's sitting at the log.] I have felt the power rising over the last few days. It's like I'm back to being new at this.
[Stiles digs into his backpack and pulls out a small wooden disk. It had taken him four tries to get the rune on it carved just right. He holds it up for Derek to see, the leather strap falling from his hand, since it's meant to be worn around the neck.]
It's made of cedar, and the rune carved into it is supposed to help you channel the energy, kind of like a wand, but not so lame. Instead of the flow overwhelming you, it will flow into the disk until you're ready to use it, then, if everything I read is right, you can release it however you want. In a large blast like last time, or in a more controlled way, it's all about concentration. Don't fight it when the magic tries to flow into the disk, or you'll end up fighting against yourself again instead of submitting to it. Put it around your neck so it hangs over your heart.
[Derek looks at the disk with an raised eyebrow. He then cautiously accept it]
As far as I know cedar has no effect on werewolves. But I'm concerned of the magic aspect. Have you researched this properly so that the rune and whatever power will be stored inside of it won't affect me in a negative way?
Of course I have! I wouldn't have even given it to you otherwise. There are some oils in the wood as well, all werewolf friendly, that help channel the magic. Besides, I made Scott wear it for a day to make sure, he thinks it was a failed experiment on my part, but I was making sure it wouldn't affect the wolf.
Just put the damn thing on, would you. See if it affects the magic that's been building with the moon.
Hm, if you're certain. [Derek responds and hangs the amulet around his neck. Nothing happens at first. He looks back at Stiles with a questioning expression. He then feels how his werewolf side subsides. Every moon he experiences symptoms related to his werewolf side. This time and as the previous that had been much stronger than usually. It hadn't impaired his control but forced him to drain more energy to go back to his usual level. But now those feelings subsides to the level he's used too ever since he learned how to control it.] I don't feel much different.
[Then the moon starts to rise over the sky and the moonlight is creeping along the ground towards where they're sitting. Derek braces himself.]
Well, you shouldn't feel anything until your magic starts getting out of
control, which is when the full moon is up, so give it time, it's just
barely starting to rise.
Look, I didn't even bring my staff, I'm that confident, just don't fight
anything you're feeling.
[As the moon light makes its way over to them Derek feels the urge for blood and violence as his body starts to attempt to change. He finds his anchor and fights back at it. As he does so the arcane power begins to rise and make its way out through his body. He does as asked and places all his focus and strength on his anchor and to remain human. The rising power impair his control of his shifting and he grits his teeth.]
You're not going to kill me, Derek, just change! This isn't going to work if you keep fighting everything going on inside you, give in to it so the Amulet can do it's job!
[Derek grits his teeth an glares back at Stiles. But he slowly starts to lower his anger. He remains angry to remain in control but instead of increasing it, he lowers it to a moderate level. He then starts shifting slowly but his mind remains in control. As he shifts however he starts to notice how the energy which previously caused a disruption is subsiding, flowing out of his body. Halfway through the shift he focuses on the energy and let it flow away while his anger makes him remain in control. As the pressure subsides he shifts back into human. He can still feel the power pushing towards him but it's now flowing away. He then looks back at Stiles with a strange expression.]
Then I'd say the amulet it working. Score one for Stiles. Now you just
have to figure out how to pull the energy out of it in a controlled way.
Might take some practice, but you'll get there.
[Derek glares at Stiles but deep down is sincerely confused. What more than a thank you could Stiles possibly want? So he walks in front of the car and places his hand on each side of it. The eyes glows blue which should be good warning for Stiles. It may be the full moon which makes Derek unusually emotionally about things.]
You really have no idea, do you? Do you know how many hours I had to spend going through books just to find the correct rune? How many times I cut myself carving the three I tried to make because I knew it had to be perfect? I put all this effort in to help you and I get nothing but a shit attitude in return. I get enough of that at school, I don't need it from you too, alright?
Now get out of the way or I will run you down like a dog.
Try it and I'll rip the engine out of your jeep. [Not joking here at all.]
I said thank you. I said that you didn't have to stay. I said that I felt in control again. And what do I get? Only attitude from you and now you're threatening me? Before you start judging others you should think about how you act. It's easier to spot the sparkle of dust in other people's eyes than the pole in your own.
Except it's not just today, Derek, it's every day. Every time I try and
help you, every single time I get attitude. And I'm just tired, alright,
I'm so damn tired of it. You just really don't get it, that's all, you
just don't.
I'm doing the best I can Derek, but it's just never enough. You still look
at me like an annoying fly you want to swat. Do you see anyone else here?
Scott? Isaac? Anyone else in your pack? It's always me trying to
help you. But it doesn't seem to mean a damn thing and I guess I'm tired
of it, that's all.
[Looks over to Stiles and sighs.] It's not a pack any more without an Alpha. I'm doing my best to adjust to not being an Alpha anymore and instead have these powers. It's not easy for me, it's all unknown to me.
I don't wish to swat you like a fly but I don't need to have you on my case all the time. Your concern is understandable but I'm not suicidal and I'm still a strong werewolf who can take care of himself. You don't have to worry over me, instead you should worry over ordinary teenage stuff.
Yes none of the pack as helped me as you have. I do appreciate your help when I need it. Sure I can try to show my appreciation more but truth is that there's a lot of things you can't help me with, nobody can.
You're a good kid and a strong one in your own way. But I'm strong too. Don't suffocate me.
But yes, I do appreciate that you give a damn about me.
That would be good, thanks. I'm sorry, I'm not the most secure kid on the
block. I put on a good front, but being a human surrounded by superhuman
werewolves? I feel kind of useless sometimes. I guess we're both doing
our best. I'm sorry I threw a fit.
[Derek gives Stiles a long look, unsure on how to take this new information. Stiles had never opened up this much to him before and it was difficult to take in.]
Apology accepted. As it's now we all need to stay united. You may not be a werewolf but you're not useless either.
Cool, thanks. I'll leave you to it, give me a call if you need anything. I'll still pop in once in awhile, because I'm annoying like that in general, but not as much as I have been. It's just been strange not having Scott around, he and Isaac are always doing wolf things and I get bored. [Lonely as hell.]
I'll speak with Scott and Isaac. I may not be an Alpha but the lest I can do is to organize things up. Scott may be a better Alpha than me but I got the experience he lacks.

How ya feeling? You look like you want to crawl out of your skin.
