[ Jayne's anything but happy with some of his goods being pocketed. ] I'm gonna ask again. You gonna pay me for that stuff you're takin? [ Jayne walks over to Riddick, and he starts to size the guy up to see if he can take him. ]
Shit ain't exactly free, I put a lot of blood into rippin' those energy bars off, I'd say there's plenty of sweat that went into it too.
[ So sometimes he zones out when Jayne goes on about his weapons and all big scary things that Jayne is good at. And maybe he's only just tuned back in. ]
What? I'm paying you? For what? Did I miss something? Now, maybe we should backtrack a little bit here...
[ Jayne looks over at the fresh crate of mangoes he got for the crew, but he felt the need to try to make a quick buck anyway. With a knife in hand, Jayne points his beloved weapon at the kitchen. ]
My sweet and lovely, crate of mangoes. You didn't think I wasn't gonna just let you enjoy the fruits of my labor without payin' for'em, didja?
Hey! I worked hard to steal those goods, and that's all there is to it. I did the work, so I'd expect another thief to have some gorram respect for another! [ Jayne would do the same as Riddick, so it is all about trying to prove a point that doesn't exist. It is not as if the whole thing makes any sense.
Jayne looks down to the crate of energy bars, and he rests his hand down at his side. ] If you want your on stuff, go steal'em from somewhere else.
[He glances towards the hand; a gun, he assumes, or a knife. Prepares for a fight; somebody doesn't get that worked up without resorting to violence sooner or later. But he stops pocketing the bars too, so that's something, even if he doesn't put his haul back.]
[ Jayne's hand relaxes, but he keeps it close to his side. He's ready to fight for those energy bars if he needs to, but even Jayne isn't dumb enough to pick a fight if he doesn't have to. ]
I ain't against tryin' somethin' new. [ He continues to watch Riddick with the bars, and snorts. ] Are you sure bout that?
You mind sharin’ what'd they stuck you in a cell for. [ Jayne's curious about this fellow criminal. He might be dumber than few sacks, but Jayne didn't survive the things he has thrown at him.
His mind wanders away from the energy bars for now, and of course Riddick is right about him having more than he'll sell them for. The Alliance is still hot on his trail, and Mal isn't exactly going to be thrilled if he gets the lot of them in trouble again. ] You some kinda terrorist or something more shiny than a thief who steels from other thieves?
[And because he's actually kind of hungry and he's fairly sure it will push a couple buttons (and Riddick really can't help doing that because his idea of "fun" is a little off-kilter), he pulls one back out of a pocket and breaks off a corner. Pops it in his mouth, chews thoughtfully, swallows, then answers. All casual-like.]
[ The energy bars of course taste like shit, but Jayne isn't going to tell Riddick this. So he's not about to get himself killed over the damn things, but he's still tickled about how angry the Alliance is over the loss of them.
When Riddick pops the answer, Jayne doesn't seem terribly bother, and he tuts. ] Never met anyone who was open about their killin' business before, but I ain't one to judge a man for killin' another in cold blood.
[ Jayne seems just as casual about the whole ordeal, and he points a finger at the box of bars. ] You don't think I got those bars without spilling blood do you. One rule to bein' a thief, don't expect a job to go smooth, cause nine times outta ten it ain't.
[You grow up in the penal system you get pretty well acquainted with food a level or so above dog food, if that, so if it's not that palatable it won't actually deter him. Food's food.]
You spend almost a year in deep freeze and do a stint at Hubble Bay with the white coats who see general pop as labrats, you start figuring people already know anyway. Why try to spackle when it's just gonna crack.
[And then he smirks.]
Plus, I figure if you're smart you're planning on doing a scan before I get far enough away to be outta your reach. Thought I'd save you some time.
[...and leave out the part about the 1.5 million UD bounty but hey. A criminal never shares how much he's worth, and that's just at the last count anyway.]
Can't get much out there without spilling some blood. Especially out this far.
I ain't ever heard of the joint. What is it? Some secret Alliance slam where they hold their most wanted? [ And after everything, Jayne's very sure the Alliance has a very special place with the crew's name on it. Jayne ain't planning on letting himself end up there. ]
I'm damn sure the Alliance has places like that scattered all over the unknown parts of the Verse.
[ Riddick is lucky Jayne is one dumb tool, so the scan isn't something he's going to have to worry about. ] I'm gonna guess you're still itchin' for a fight.
You were the one takin' my haul, but seein' those are nothin' but a box of gorram fruit bars. I ain't about to waste ammo on'em.
[ As dumb as he is Jayne isn't about to pick a mindless fight over fruit bars. ] Now if it was somethin' worth fightin' for then we wouldn't be havin' this conversation.
[ The Alliance's interest is in him and Serenity's crew, and not the damn food bars. [ ]

Wonder where the high ground is, arguing with a man about stealing stolen goods.

Thieves with respect? Well that'd be a new one.
Ain't a thief though. Not really.

You don't really need as many as you got, you can afford to overlook a few.

No, not a terrorist. Just killed some people.
