Academics: designed to kill your soul.

Seems harsh.

Nah. The whole academic process is designed to destroy your emotional vigor. If you're too enthusiastic about your degree you might make people think they're actually smart enough to get one too.

Why would enthusiasm be confused with intelligence?

Because you're happy when you're enthusiastic. You're optimistic, and usually about your capabilities in the classroom. It's an infectious point of view.

...that doesn't make you smart. I get happy and optimistic, and I'm kinda slow.

Well, see, you actually don't have to be of extreme intelligence to get a degree--it's one of those misconceptions that everyone has.

No, I lied to you and it was in art. Of course really. I like people, I like studying people. It seemed pretty natural from there.

People are fucking fascinating. Do you get to travel now and compare cultures and stuff?

And stuff, mostly, but yes, I do travel. [She's a treasure hunter. Sort of. Being stationary doesn't exactly work.]

Okay, that's a good point. Although you can see a lot of crap reflected in the bible.

Well, yeah. That's because it was oral history for dozens of generations before it was ever written down, and naturally different shit got incorporated. And loads of it got left out at the Council of Nicaea.

I find religion and myth very interesting. I think it says a lot about human beings.
