No. Boo. Don't fret. Come and get snuggled instead.

"I think so. 's cute."

Snuggles he can absolutely do. Curling up around her doesn't stop the fretting instantly, but it does pull a certain edge of contentment back into his voice.

"Cute?"

"Cute," she says firmly, squeezing him just slightly to prove her point.

"I-- suppose it's not like anyone else's opinion really matters." Horribly biased though her opinion clearly was. He ducks with a sigh, bumping his nose against her cheek. "You're sweet."

"You are, too," she retorts with more of a snuggle, "So 't doesn't matter what y'sound like."

His head tilts away from hers, briefly, in consideration. "'less we got a dog. An' he didn't understand one of us."

"Dunno 'f that's how it works, Fe."

Dogs seem to understand tone more than they do actual words.

"No?" His head ducks back close again, nose nudging against her hear. "How's it wor', then?"

"Think they hear more the way your voice sounds-- like how stern or happr or whatever-- than the way you're actually saying things, mm?"

So they should be fine, clearly.

"Maybe we shouldn' get a dog, then." Which is alas and alack a pretty horrible thing, just. "Dunna as I can sound horribly unhappy."

"'s true," she agrees, although there's a pout at the thought of not getting a dog, "Maybe we should start with a fish or something."

"An' see how we do? Work our way up t'-- crocodiles eventually?"

Or, you know. Maybe just puppies.

A cheerful laugh.

"Yeah. They're so much better than guard dogs."

Who'd want to cross a crocodile?

"I mean-- we'll still have dogs." Make no mistake, life-partner. No mistake at all. "Just s'me crocs t' guard them."

"I like that plan." Said with another laugh and a kiss to his cheek.

"And lions."

To protect the crocodiles.

They will end up with a zoo if she encourages him with cheek-kisses, okay.

"And tigers and bears?"

Oh my.

"--oh my."

It needed to be said Properly, clearly.

"'s do it."

And it'll get a soft giggle when it is said.

"All right."

Everything is worth it for that small happy noise. Everything he could ever possibly do would be worth it for that soft giggle.

"Promise?"

"Promise, Fe."

And she'll seal it with a kiss.

Everything's a little better sealed with a kiss. Everything's better when he can then bump his nose against hers, possibly just stick there contentedly.

"Hey. I-- really like you."

"I really like you, too, Fe."

More than just like, even.

So much more than like. It just felt like the right place to start.

"Like-- a million."

"Yeah?" And of course she knows he's speaking the truth. It's just it's got an easy grin on her lips to tease, "How 'bout a billion?"

"Like a googlplex."

So hah.

"That's a lot of like," she says, kissing him again gratefully.

Kisses are a Good Distraction from big numbers. The best distraction.

"It's like-- love like, you know?"

"I know, Fe." She's known, really. How could she not know?

"It's love like for me, too."

"For-- a long time."

And it's absolutely been obvious. It absolutely doesn't matter.

Might make things better, even.

"Feels like forever."

And she doesn't regret a moment of it.

"Could be." And that wouldn't be a bad thing. Nothing about them ever felt like it could be a bad thing. "Ought t' see 'f we can keep going forever too, yeah?"

"Definitely, yeah."

Because it's definitely not a bad thing. It could never be a bad thing, even if they went to forever.

There needs to be another kiss for that. There needs to be a pleased rubbing together of their noses.
