There are three kinds of secrets. One is the sort everyone knows about, the sort you need at least two people for. One to keep it. One to never know.

[She tries to ignore the fact that now she wants to know. That works for about a minute before she turns to face him properly.]

[He's laying in his bed staring at the ceiling. When the phone rang he almost didn't answer. Now he was tossing a rubber ball at the wall across from him with one hand, catching it as it bounces back.] Do we?

One is the sort everyone knows about. One you keep from yourself. And the third is the secret no one knows about.

It's not much of a secret if everyone knows about it.

Let me give you an example. You know when someone comes out? And everyone around that person is like 'oh I always knew they were gay', that's a secret everyone knows.

[She thinks about that and then shrugs.]

I wouldn't call it a secret, but I guess it makes sense.

Unspoken truths are secrets.

Are they? They feel more like denials than secrets. Sometimes they're things you wish were secrets.

Is it really denial if you just aren't ready to give your secret a voice?

[historyspider]

If it's already known by everyone, not voicing it is just like wishing it wasn't known. Which it is. Denial. Or else it's just making things more complicated.

Or it's just not being ready. But, I'm sure you know better then anyone else, right?

[She snorts and laughs.] Hardly. But I do try to challenge the things people tell me. It’s no good if it doesn’t stand up to a little challenge.

Opinion isn't easy to challenge.

That depends on the person, doesn't it?

If you're talking to someone who can be easily swayed away from what they believe, yeah.

[historyspider]

There are also the people who know that they don’t know everything, and are willing to change their opinions as they learn more. They’re not as difficult as those who feel a differeny opinion is more of an attack. So... It depends very much on the person.

[A pause as she thinks about it.] Both people, actually.
