Stupid and sloppy of her, to think he wouldn't recognize her. The curiosity had just been a little too much to resist. What was he doing here? Were the rest of the organization, what was left of it anyway, here too? Should she be looking for a new identity again? It had been worth the risk, though now she was, perhaps, rethinking it.
Making a face, she passes his wallet back, everything still in it. "Can't blame a girl for trying. What brings you to New York?" Maybe a question will get an answer instead.
"Nah, you gotta keep in practice, right?" he gave her a wink and checked the contents quickly before putting it back in his pocket. "I'm not your average mark, however. Work. What else?"
That wink gets him an arched eyebrow. Actually, she hadn't lifted a wallet in months. Hasn't needed to, really, but maybe he's right. Shouldn't let herself get rusty. "As always. Still with the company?" The question is light, but he ought to know how important the answer is for what comes next.
"No, I'm on my own these days. Grimm sort of self destructed," he hadn't kept in touch with many of the survivors of it. Leo occasionally crossed his path. But he hadn't seen anyone else in months.
She hadn't seen anyone else in months, either, but that was more personal choice than anything. She could go back to visit Tuck and the rest any time she wanted. Not that he has to know that, or that she'd want to. She's happy with the life she's got right now, which us yet another reason him practically shouting the name of their former employer gets him a look. "Self-destructed is one way to put it," she says after a moment, looking thoughtful. "Something to be said for freelancing, at least you've got a bit more independence. Take the jobs you choose and all. Just you, then? How long are you in town?"
Whoops! This is what happens when you have 4 pups and the same pb for all of them!
"True," and he had no fear of mentioning Grimm in public. There wasn't enough of Grimm left to uphold their reputation as the big bad. There was nothing they could do to him or anyone else. "Another week. Then I'm off to London."
It's more a matter of discretion. She's always careful. It's one reason she's so good, why her identity's only been breached once in the nearly ten years of her career thus far. Besides, there's a lot of people out there who'd love easy access to a former employee of the company. There were a lot of grudges being held, and she wouldn't put it past some of her former employees to scoop a discarded playing piece back up, either.
"I hear London's lovely this time of year," she adds, nonchalant. "Maybe we can grab dinner while you're here, talk about old times or something." She can't resist a chance to pick his brain a little more thoroughly.
"It is. Sounds like a plan," he said with a friendly grin. Best to keep it friendly. There were plenty enough folks who held grudges against them. Including a few of their own. And a little exchange of information was always a good thing. So was a little payback. He deftly lifted her watch. "How about tonight? Where shall we meet?"
