My girlfriend's father made me promise I wouldn't let anything happen to her. And. I couldn't keep that promise.

[It was hard to talk about, but finally explaining it to someone (anyone who would listen), helped.]

[Peter shrugged.]

But that doesn't change things, does it? Doing what I could. People still died.

I know, which is why I returned from my self-served exile. Still doesn't change everything.

[Peter was still having a hard time going forward and adjusting.]

A year ago, I wouldn't have tried it. But this last year and a half has not been... Destruction is a recurring theme.

I almost let my former childhood best friend die because I was too afraid to let him become something like me. And in the process, I think I made it worse.

[He's trying not to think about that, either.]

But he's not dead.

And you can still do something. Everyone gets scared, Peter. You're not some godlike super human, you know. Everyone is allowed to be scared.

[Peter nodded, because yes, he understood that, but it was just hard to remember.]

Right. I am allowed to. But lately, more things just seem to be going wrong, and it's more my fault than not my fault.

[It's easier to be upset than happy.]

That's gonna happen too, but you gotta keep on going. Mistakes are gonna happen, and in the job you're in, people are gonna get hurt. And it's gonna hurt you and feel like your fault.

One of the downsides of being a hero.

But you're a lot stronger than you get credit for, you can handle this.
