[look just because she's a BIG stray cat doesn't make her special. Even if anyone who knows their wild cats would call her an ocelot. Just a stray cat looking for food here.]
[But yes, she is aware of eyes on her. she may also be empathic and realizes one of the signals she's picking up on is an interest in her. She pauses and looks right at the strange man watching her and narrows her eyes at him. She looks at him for a second, then goes back to watching for a rabbit or bird she can hunt. Or, you know, scraps of food the humans have dropped. Just a stray cat. Move along.]
He walks up behind her, his hand gently reaching out as if to stroke across her back. He's prepared for a bad reaction, but he hopes for the best. He thinks there's something of interest here.
He gets mixed results. She jumps and swiftly backs away several feet, tail puffed up and snarling. But, on the other hand. She didn't attack or run away. He has her attention now. And she's watching with eyes far too intelligent to belong to an ordinary cat, even a big one. Now what?
Nathaniel laughed faintly, stepping toward her again. He moved slowly, giving her plenty of time to run. Still, he walked with purpose, trusting his confidence would keep her intrigued.
Intrigued yes, but it doesn't make her any less inclined to trust him. So she backs up even as he approaches, behaving as if she's too aware of her surroundings. She's very much avoiding cornering herself.
Her tail lashes, considering. The man smells human, which is a group she tends to avoid. But there's something else that brushes against her sense of smell. A scent she associates with magic clings to him.
It seems as though her options are run or speak. It would make more sense to run, humans have been nothing but trouble. But his behavior is...different from what she's used to. When she speaks in this form it's not with a voice, she's simply a powerful enough empath to project thoughts. It's risky because thoughts thoughts get transferred to others with emotions attached. In this case you'll get a strong sense of uncertainty. She is not convinced this is the choice she should be making.
"To say hello." He kept his voice level, that same smile on his face. He was trying to project a sort of calm smugness. He knew what he was doing. Did she?
"And yourself? Most people don't wander around like this without a reason."
She's confident in what she's doing, at least. She's been living this way for a while, moving from town to town before the locals realized she was too big to be a domestic cat, and too exotic to really belong to this planet. Wherever that happens to be. She didn't care much, as long as it was green. and her aimless portals have been pretty good about taking her green places so far.
She tilts her head a bit at the question. Her expression similar to a humanoid face lifting an eyebrow in vague amusement. She feels your calm smugness. She feels emotions you aren't making the effort to project too. She'd dig deeper to find out what you're up to, but she's fairly certain the man would notice. If he has magic he knows to guard himself.
-Most people don't give a second thought to a stray cat.-
You may notice she didn't actually answer the question. You may also notice the vague sense of uncertainty that comes with her words has changed into idle curiosity.
"Most people aren't me," he promised her - a faint smile touching his lips. His eyes are looking her over still, clearly curious - but not prying too hard. NEver prying...
Cautiously, so cautiously, she starts to move closer. Twitching whiskers giving away that she's smelling the man. Seeing what his scent can tell her about him.
