[The new Doctor stares managing to look both confused and worried at the same time.]

Who?

Lucius. Pompeii? Volcano day?

[Donna looks a bit confused now. But funny how the Doctor always looks like the Doctor.]

[A light dawns.]

That's where this face is form doesn't explain the frown lines....wait you shouldn't remember this....why do you remember?

That's where that face comes fro.....

[Donna pauses and looks him over again. She speaks very quietly.]

Doctor?

Why shouldn't I remember you? I'd never forget you.

[Sorry, she's from before the metacrisis]

[ It doesn't apply to him, but The Doctor looks confused. ]

I'm The Doctor, but I'm not sure who this Lucius fellow is and how I came to look like him. But please, don't tell me I've got a twin out there that I don't know about.

[Donna just stares at him for a minute.]

You're... Really?

[Excuse her, she's going to poke his shoulder.]

You're the Doctor?

[ The Doctor didn't expect her to know him, as he does not know her. He's been doing his best to dodge angry Time Lords since he rescued Charley from the R101. With an upbeat smile on his face, The Doctor is always interested in meeting people who know him.

He just hopes Donna is a friend and not someone who's going to kill his mood. At the poke, he sways backward mockingly. ] Of course, I am! While I don't know you, and that's just fine!

But yes, I am he, The Doctor! [ He offers out a hand to Donna to shake. ] And just who might you be?

[She's a friend and she accepts his proffered hand to shake. But then she pauses, biting her lip.]

Not sure I should say. Timelines and all that? I mean, if you are the Doctor an' you don't remember me, isn't it better if I don't say?

Perhaps, but I've already caused enough trouble as it is. [ He holds the hand, dips down low and he smiles. ] However, I'm sure you don't want me to come up with a name for you.

Perhaps you're someone I met sometime ago a very long sometime ago! [ He's good with faces, too good with faces so it doesn't work. This is worrying. ]

[Donna offers a small smile.]

True. You're rubbish with names. Donna, but 'm not giving my last name.

[ He lets Donna's hand go with the smile still on his face. ] Very well Donna. I'm still a little curious. Who are you in relationship to me or my future self?

I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you. I mean, doesn't it screw up timelines or somethin' if I tell you things before you should know them?

I've met my future regenerations and their companions before, and I can assure you all of history was safe.

We travel together. We're best mates. Though you have this outrageous complex about being a Time Lord.

[She smiles. Because it is kind of endearing. When it isn't driving her crazy. ]

Brilliant! [ The Doctor flashes a smile; he always likes to find there are always good things that will indeed happen to him in the future. ]

Being a Time Lord isn't all that important, and right now, I'm doing my best to avoid the lot of them. [ He doesn't see the harm in telling her about something that's been done in the past. ] I managed to save someone who shouldn't be alive.

And, by the rules of time, what I did was very, very, very dangerous. The Web of Time is stable so far, but even the slightest disturbance could bring about trouble.

[The Doctor blinks long and slow and for a second he looks deeply sad.]

Oh Donna.....I'm sorry. Never got to say that but I am. I am very, very sorry.

[Donna looks suddenly scared.]

No. Don't you dare say that to me! You only say that when something bad's about to happen!

Well, if it's a comfort, they eventually leave you alone. Though, I don't think you've forgiven yourself or them for that experience.

[Well, it's the truth, even if she's leaving out massive details about it.]

I could do with a lot less of them in my life, so I won't be one to argue when the time comes.

[ He's got a long, long, long way before he even needs to worry about those darker days. For now, he's content to deal with the task of avoiding Romana and the High Council.

Charley deserves better, and it still haunts him that he had to pick who survived and who didn't. The other passengers must have counted for something. He sighs, and opts to avoid letting his mind wander. ]

President Romana is trying to make for a positive change, but I don't see the rest of the Council agreeing to her reforms.

[Donna raises an eyebrow.]

President Romana? High Council?

Doctor, what are you on about?

[ Now this is troubling, and he starts to look worried. ]

Has my future version of myself not told you of the Time Lords? Anyway, Romana is the one who is responsible for maintaining order within our society along with the High Council. [ He tries to keep a neutral tone when he tries to explain things to her. ]

There are certain rules on Gallifrey that Romana is attempting to change, and there's quite a bit of disagreement on them from the Council. And one of those things is allowing non-Gallifreyans access to the Academy and Gallifrey itself.

[Donna nods, as if she understands. She doesn't.]

But, beyond disagreements... there's no war going on?

[Because wow, this Doctor must be a baby.]

I didn't really get the chance before....it was the one thing I regretted. One of my many mistakes.

Besides a few skirmishes with the Daleks and Sontorans, the greatest enemy to Gallifrey lies from within.

[ The Doctor's face becomes stern as does his voice. ]

The Council is corrupt, and there's more than wanting to see the universe that drew me to travel.

[So... before the Time War, Donna figures.]

Well, it sounds like Daleks and Sontorans are old hats for wanting to battle with you.
