"Do tell then," Anna challenges, amusement clear in the tone of her voice, "is this something we should be doing, or is this something we're doing simply because we can?"
Anna's parents often did warn her not to speak with strangers. But there only was just the one life to live, and what was the point of doing that if she couldn't have fun every now and again? "I would be a fool to disagree. What is it that we're doing, exactly?"
Years and years of etiquette training haven't done Anna wrong, and there is no hesitation at all before she murmurs her thanks, and accepts the offered arm. "Searching out adventure, I like that. But I feel that I must ask for the name of my new partner in crime. It's only right."
Oh! Well, there's less to worry about knowing that she's managed to fall in with an honorable man! Less worry about having to hear yet another lecture about virtue, and the value of it being intact, and all of that. "Annabelle Charlotte Elisabeth de Montague. But … just Anna is fine. I actually prefer it."
"Anna. My pleasure," he replies. If there is one thing Aramis won't do, it's lecture anyone on virtue. Glass houses and all that. "And what brings you out today?"
Thank goodness for that. She's heard the lectures about one hundred times or more, and after a while, they really just get old. "Adventure, of course. Being locked away in a tower gets rather boring after a while."
"Not literally," she replies, by way of explanation. Not a very good one, though, and she sighs, rolling her eyes. "Someone in my position - there are a lot of responsibilities. I hardly have time to call my own anymore."
Is that a faint flush to her pale cheeks? Anna will never tell. There is, however, a tell-tale crack to her voice once she finds the presence of mind to answer. "Princess of marriageable age, you see. I spend quite a bit of time scaring potential husbands away, and quite a bit of time sequestered from men who are up to no good."
XD - there are a lot of this one that fit that descriptor. Like this one, for instance
Onward, to whatever adventure was to be found! "I wish I could say that I made a daring escape from the window, climbing down on a rope, but honestly, I waited until everyone was busy, and I dashed out. You take your opportunities when you find them, after all."
Both are things that Anna knows little to nothing about. But that's what this was all about - new experiences. "Not yet, but I'm certain that something will come my way."
If she stays by Aramis's side, it most surely will. He is something of an adventure magnet. "Is there a sort of adventure you seek, Anna?" he asks, grinning - yes, rakishly.
Well, then, she's run into entirely the right man, hasn't she? And then there's that grin, and she's not quite sure if she should trust it. On the other hand ... life was boring without taking a risk every now and then. "Anything that will get my heart pounding, I would think."
"And so, we return to the original question - what are we going to do that makes that wish a reality?" She's up for most things, really, as long as they're exciting.
Suddenly, it seems quite important to provide this young woman with adventure. "I know just the thing," he says. And only suggests it because of what happened a months back. "This way, Anna."
It's unladylike to squeal and clap, and so, Anna simply just smiles all the wider, and with a new skip in her step, happily follows along. She's got no clue what awaits her, and maybe she's naive, but she trusts that she's not being led straight into a den full of lions. "I knew you wouldn't let me down."
