He can jump to a node before it happens, get rid of the problem, then delay the dragon so events don't change too much.]

Of what kind? [Most consequences to him he can probably live with. Consequences to those the magic will be used on... well, if it's not too much, it's better than being dead. If it is something large, then he'll have to look for a different solution.]
