"C'mon, Dance Moms is total quality...

"Not sure quality is the word I would use. That woman is batshit. Pass the popcorn."

"See, I'd actually argue that the moms are the crazy ones here. Abby is a coach, this is what coaches do. Or so I am told by people who actually partake in sports like activities." She grabs the popcorn bowl that's beside her and passes it to Kate.

"I mean she clearly does good work. Look at Maddie."

"I've had coaches and they've never been like that." Though, to be fair, when you're as rich as Kate, coaches tend to be afraid of working their students too hard.

She shoves a handful of popcorn in her mouth and sets the bowl between them.

"Okay, but you coaches were probably afraid your Dad would like...I don't know...have them banished to Siberia."

"Ugh. Yeah. I kinda wish they weren't afraid of daddy. But then, I don't think he would have noticed if people were tough on me." Mr. Bishop didn't notice much when it came to his daughter.

Like the bruises she came home with.

"Parents don't notice half the shit they'd like us to believe they notice." Though, honestly, Jamie noticed a hell of a lot. Probably more than Bekkah realized he did.

Definitely more than Kate's dad did. He had asked about the bruises after the last time Kate slept over. Asked if she was in some kind of trouble.

Bekkah hated to admit she didn't know.

"Yeah. I think daddy's a little more oblivious than most parents." And that's putting it mildly.

Kate likes Bekkah's dad. And, okay, she miiiiight think he's hot. Kate's got a bit of a thing for older men. Not that she would ever make a move on her bff's dad, because no. You just don't do that.

And well, there's the on again off again thing with Tommy.

Yeah, no. There will be no hitting on Jamie. Nope. Absolutely not.

Besides, Bekkah happens to think that you and Tommy are perfect together.

"Everything's okay with you, though, right?" Speaking of obliviousness and all that.

If only Tommy would stay still long enough, he would be an awesome boyfriend.

"What? Yeah. Everything's good. Why?"

Oh, here is the conversation she's been dreading. Kate knows where this is going and it might get real awkward real fast.

Wouldn't that be nice? You and Tommy's mom can commiserate about it together.

"Cause you have bruises."

Yeah. This conversation is going exactly the way she thought it would. Think fast, Hawkeye.

"I'm taking self defense classes. It's a bit hardcore."

"Self defense classes? Your idea or your parents?" Thank god Jamie wasn't as paranoid as some. Bekkah really didn't relish spending her afternoons in a smelly gym.

"Mine. Been taking them for a few years. Daddy doesn't know." Because Daddy doesn't know what happened that night in Central Park when she was fifteen.

"You think he'd be against it?"

Maybe you should tell him, Kate. Or hey...tell Bekkah. YOU NEED TO SHARE THESE THINGS.

"Not really. But, he'd probably suggest I do something with less impact. Like yoga or Pilates or something like that."

There's only three people who know about it. Her therapist, Jessica Jones, and Tommy. Eventually she'll tell you, Bekkah.

"My mom does Pilates. I don't really see the appeal." Not that she saw the appeal of the other, but at least that sort of made sense.
