Think my daughter is the Devil.

Funny, my own mother thought I was too.

Do you get along at all now?

She's dead so we get along pretty well now.

[Alex saw humor was probably not the best route to go on this one and got serious.]

The older I got. The better we got along. She didn't approve of my...lifestyle but if I was happy then she was good.

That's good! What's your lifestyle? How did she die? My daughter is just a kid right now, but she has a few issues.

I'm a lesbian. I know right? I should be burned at the stake!

[Alex didn't answer on how her mom died. It was still too painful to talk about but at least she exchanged a friendly smile.]

What kind of issues?

That's all? I don't understand why people make it an issue. My mom was lesbian, well, most of the time.

[She gives a small smile, and doesn't push for more information.

She... She sets fires and plays pranks. They'd why I said she was the devil. She can be evil. She only does it to risky who deserve it but I don't want the cops knocking at my door one day.

Most of the time? That's a new one.

The best advice I can give is to let her find her own way. You can guide her so much but in the end kids need to make mistakes on their own.

[A soft smile escaped her lips.]

But what do I know? I haven't a maternal bone in my body.

There was my Father and one other guy, but that's it, most of the time she had a girlfriend. But she's not one to follow rules, a lot like me.

That's what I've been doing, but she was sent home from another school so I had to take time off from work. I'm not that maternal either, but I've got to try my best. I'm raising her alone.

I say if you've got no one to help you then keep talking to her and trying to get the message to sink in.

It makes me happy to know I'm not having kids of my own. The idea of a little me running around would be a nightmare.

I will. She's my kid, so I have to do my best. If it goes on much longer I'll have to teach her not to get caught.

...She really is almost just like I was. I'm in for it. [She laughs] Because I was a troublemaker. Not that it's funny... But it was a lot of fun. But you seem nice for someone I've just met.

Nice huh? Well that's the best compliment I've had in a long time.
