What has changed the most since then?

I can't tell if that's sarcasm, but I'm going to choose to believe it's not.

You ever see something you love so much become something so drastically different? I've been an Avenger since the beginning and as stupid as it sounds, this team was my baby. I'm not sure how I feel about things anymore.

Oh, everything.

That's normal, but you may see that some things have stayed the same.

Even Captain America is different these days, and that's a man who came to us straight out of World War II. Whole different guy now.

Oh, you meant personality wise. Yes, those are always changing. People grow and change, even over the course of a year.

Oh, no. Literally. Cap's taking an... indefinite break and someone had to wield the shield. It was actually a pretty big deal a while back.

Oh! That! I see. Well... yes. I'd say a lot has changed. I'm sorry, I assumed you were talking about something else at first.

[She waves her hand dismissively.] Nothing to apologize for.

Do you think the change is for better or worse?

Honestly? I have no idea. Sometimes I think it must be for the better, but there's a lot of talk lately and a lot of things I'm not so sure I agree with. It's just... so strange to be a part of something for so long and realize one day that it's nothing like you remember it.

I'm a founding member of the Avengers, I named the damn team, and I've led us through some of our darkest times. The team's like my baby. I've yet to get used to the fact that I'm no longer a core team member.

Have you mentioned it to anyone? You of all people would know, since you're a founding member. I almost said senior, but you're nowhere near old and I didn't want you think that's what I thought. Can you do more core team stuff?

Not at the moment, no. I'm on a... slightly extended personal leave. I keep in touch with Stark, I have lunch with Steve nearly every week, I'm friends outside of the team with a lot of past and present members of the team, but it doesn't feel right acting like my opinion matters when I'm not on the team.

[She flashes something of a wary smile.] I'm sorry, I didn't mean to rant. Hardly professional. I'm Janet, by the way, but... you might have known that.

Your friends should know now, right? Since you've said something. I'm sure they'd love your opinion.

And it's fine. I'm never professional, except for at work, so you're ten times more so than me, and yeah, I knew your name but I don't just say names because it's kind of rude. I'm Janie, by the way. It's really nice to meet you.

Some of them do, but they're just as tied to the team at the moment as I am.

...though if we're gonna get technical and talk about starting out than just the Avengers, there were a few super heroes active before you and Pym, right? The Fantastic Four, Thor and Spidey I think.

You know, you don't get near enough credit. They didn't even put you in the movies.

Don't even get me started on that crap. Honestly, the only reason I haven't made a huge fuss is that they're completely inaccurate. I know exactly who created Ultron and it sure as hell wasn't Stark or Banner.

Well, there superheros before us, back in Cap's day. A few strays here and there. [And whatever the hell DC's got going on in their timeline.]

Guess it depends what you define as superpowers versus heroes, I mean people go on about Namor and the original Torch back in the thirties, but I remember reading about guys in the old west like Phantom Rider and Two-Gun Kid when I was little. But the Avengers were probably the first team with such a central purpose and open roster plan. Must have been cool to be there at the start of all that.

The Avengers is one of the greatest things I have ever had the pleasure of being apart of... and I find myself far too nostalgic about the team for my taste. I'm not sure how I remedy that -- do I force my way back into the core of the team? Do I go on and do my own thing? [Do we burn Marvel to the ground for ignoring one of their most interesting super heroines? Smh.]

Guess the past always looks a little fresher from perspective. As for what you do to rectify that, I can't really tell you, but you probably should be in the Avengers somewhere, whether that's leading or support. Prove to them you're one of the all stars again. [And also we should totally prod Marvel for an Ant Man and Wasp mini series on Netflix to make up for little to no Jan in Ant Man.]
