Yeah. I know. But I can't base my life on other people.

What do you base it on?

I have to base it on how I feel about things and people. I can't control other people, but I can control myself.

You can control other people if you learn how to play them. It's easy once you learn how. But someone is gonna care if you die, and not just some nobody like most people are.

I don't want to play other people though. I know that's a bit naive and cuts down my life expectancy, but I try to do right.

Hmm. So why did you say no one would care if you know someone who would?

Why's it wrong to play other people? It doesn't hurt anything.

Because I was talking about everyone. They're all really small and nothing compared to everyone out there. Even the most popular girl in school is really nothing and nobody will miss her in the end.

It doesn't have to be wrong. If you do it in unfair ways though, it's like lying. And that can hurt people. Either through consequence or if they find out. I've seen a lot of people manipulated and been hurt because of it so I don't think it's harmless.

Hm. Even the most popular girl in school has family who care, or friends. They may not be nice people, but they still have some feelings. Why do you think no one will miss her?

People are hard to keep happy, aren't they?

No one will miss her because she's mean and selfish and so are her parents. People will be glad if she suddenly disappears and even happier if her parents disappear too.

They really are. They get harder to keep happy the older you get too.

Hm. I dunno. I think even selfish and mean people will be missed by someone. You don't think people would be bit worried and a little nervous if she disappeared?

How old are you?

Maybe. I think a lot of it's pretending. Some people feel bad but a lot just don't care past a certain point.

That's a tough questions. Close to 40. I spent some time being dead so I don't know if I count those years or not.

I think a lot of people pretend. But I think they hide a lot of what they feel too.

People are weird and complicated.

Most of my friends are dead. You only count those years when you want to.

I don't think I like people. I wanted to be a hero but people don't care much about getting saved or other people, or anything but important stuff.

Ghosts? No. Death? ...Well, I don't want to die but I wouldn't say I let that stop me.

I'm not afraid to die and I like ghosts. Most people are afraid of it and anything else that is fun.

You like ghosts? Can you see them? Are you being haunted?

I've always been able to see ghosts. They're some of my best friends.

Yeah, Mom will be okay with it. She likes you. Do you want the ghosts to leave you alone or are you just curious?

Both? Assuming that it is a ghost, they have been filling the bathtub which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't a bit of a trigger for Sam. Plus, my shins would appreciate if they stop opening all the cabinet doors.
