I just feel like me.

Do you feel like a hero?

Most days I just feel like a man with a Job to do.

...No, I don't. Have you ever wanted to be one?

Don't we all?

Dunno.. Probably depends on if you feel like a hero or a man with a job.

I am no such thing.

Kind of. I want to help people, but I don't think I want the kind of press coverage that a hero gets.

Not every hero gets attention. Most go unknown.

Heroes don't exist, doesn't stop the man with a job from trying to be one, however.

Didn't ask if you are.

But that seems to be the implication of the question.

Blue blazes Man! Of course heroes exist.

That's quite a fantasy world that you've built up then.

I asked you feel like one.

To feel something implies it exists. If you were to feel sad wouldn't you say you are sad? Your sadness becomes your identity.

That doesn't make you that thing though. Just means that you believe that's what you are.

It does.. if you convince enough people to feel how you feel.

Convincing someone doesn't automatically make you that thing either. You could say that you're one thing, and believe in it with all your might, but it doesn't change anything terrible that you've done in for the sake of what you think you are.

Perception is a powerful thing... if a man believes he is a hero, if he does heroic things... behaves in a heroic manner.... If the folk believe he is a hero, he has become one. Songs are sung, and tales are told...

And nobody will ever know the truth behind that man, what he really did. There's no such thing as heroes. Just men.

The truth has never particularly mattered in such things.

But don't be mistaken... the world is full of things beyond men and things pretending to be men.

Nothing more terrifying though, I'd wager.

There are a few things more terrifying, but they are few and far between. And true Heroes even more rare.

Never met anything more horrifying. Suppose I knew a hero once, or I think he was.

Tell me his story.

Not much to tell besides that they saved my life.

[And he ended up bastardizing his name.]

I've seen them. I've seen them live and die.

Perception varies from person to person.

No. That is a terrible story. You must start at the beginning. The names of his parents, his homeland and the thing that drove him to chose his life. His love and his reluctance.

Not much room for perception for a man who saves a ship on a crash course or who dies fighting a giant space monster trying to destroy everything.

Doing great things doesn't make a great man.

The only thing I know is that he was born in the United States. Don't really care to know anything else about him by now.

Dude, that's exactly what makes a great man.

Then you have a very small view on what being a man is.

You would not be a pleasure to drink with. You need to work on your story telling.
