"Do you mean... Our mutual friend, Janie?" Maria blinks almost audibly, with her big alien-like eyes. "I mean, I haven't seen her in a few days, but-- she was just fine the last I saw of her...?"

"It's probably nothing." He's not sure if he quite believes that. "My uncle had a sort of a.. he gets these premonitions. We just wanted to see if she was alright."

I don't know, Penelope. Can't you keep better track of your pet people?

Hey sweetheart. I haven't seen that girl in days. Maybe someone broke her heart.

"'Premonitions', eh?" Maria can't help but smirk at the very idea of taking such things seriously. "I mean, seriously? I don't really believe in any sort of Divination; after all, if I did, I think I would have wound up dead after spending the night in a room with a broken clock, at another friend's home..." She then grimaces apologetically, as she notes that his expression is far from "amused" or even remotely "good-humoured". "I'm sure it's nothing, and that she's fine, really!"

They won't know or care. She doesn't know them yet, she barely knows anyone.

How's this, Angel Boy, I will take the teleporting device that I stole from the trainwreck, and send you pieces of her throughout the year? I will make sure that you remember her. And that it's your fault. If you were paying any kind of attention to her then you'd have worked all of these details years ago.

"Yeah, I was kind of on my best behaviour when I met you before... except that time I said 'dick' in the bar. Maybe you were too drunk to remember that."

"I just worry about Janie, you know? That, and I'm an arsehole." He does manage a slight grin at that.

"Oh, sorry, but-- I do happen to remember the use of the word "dick" coming from your mouth!" She giggles a little, even though she does not, in truth, remember it.

"Worry about her!? And not-- moi? I mean-- sorry, but-- wait! No, I'm not sorry for being a little bit offended at that..." She wrinkles her nose up at the handsome angel (yes: she HAS noticed how handsome he is, in spite of the knowledge that he would much rather be with her stodgy BROTHER than with her in bed!) "I mean, seriously? I am an Auror; a Dark wizard catcher, and Janie: she's a ruddy stay-at-home mum!"

Anyone who knows Phoenix knows he gets a little cranky over Janie at times. Fair enough that Maria isn't expected to know that, but still...

"Gods... I can't believe that just came out of your mouth! I never once had you marked down as a snob."

Of course, the poor young woman in front of him does not have any way of knowing of the angel's temperament regarding apparent slights on Janie. "OI! And when did I ever say that being a Stay-at-home mum was a bad thing? I meant only that it's a safe thing... Safe enough, at least, that I don't worry about her-- and I like her! Quite a lot, in fact."

[He knows future Janie got away somehow, and doesn't rise to the bait.]

He does try to calm down some. "I'm sorry if I offended you by swearing, but if you're offended at me being worried over a very old friend... then that's your issue, not mine."

"A history and a future you already know about? Wow... Sounds.... complicated, really!" She grimaces apologetically, as she adds: "Sorry, I didn't mean to sound dismissive of Janie; after all, children are our future, and I admire her for raising Lynn so well. But still-- I am a little bit offended that you aren't worrying about me at all, when you could have never seen me again, save of course, upstairs in Heaven, if I even made it up there, past the-- Pearly Gates, are they called, aye?" She grimaces again, her nose crinkling up and accenting the utter brokenness of that particular protrusion upon her face-- though of course, as she is making a dramatic exaggeration about her odds of living to see Phoenix again here on Earth, her nose is not actually broken currently. "Well, if I ever made it past those with my history with men."

I'm sorry, I don't. [The Doctor sounds genuinely regretful. Missing friends and not knowing if they're alright is never fun.] Where did you last see her?

"It's horribly complicated. .. Lynn's my daughter."

He does listen, after all Phoenix tries hard not to be a jerk. It sort of just happens. He blames his Boss for making him what he is.

"Maria. This is only the third time we've spoken. I've never been allowed into Heaven proper, and believe me, if you end up there, all your worries are over and I'll be happy for you."
