I'll never totally understand July 4th.

I'm a military man, being nice would be counterproductive.

Hmm. That's an interesting viewpoint. I don't know if I have heard that interpretation from the Americans I've met and known over the years.
Every country's independence day celebrates the same, really.
Sweden celebrates Sveriges nationaldag, though it is not really founded in a bloody battle the way it is elsewhere. Well .. Hmm. Swedes did not start celebrating our "independence" until since the 1980s, though the day we celebrate was the result of the Stockholm Bloodbath and subsequent election of King Gustav Vasa .. so, I guess ours is based off of a bloody history, as well. Just ... hundreds of years later.

I have never served in the military, though I have many friends who have - both here and back home. Do you enjoy it?

Do you? I have heard mixed things from my friends. Some thoroughly loved it, have continued to be in it for many, many years. I do not expect they will leave it any time soon. Others were ... very damaged, very broken.
I was damaged before I ever wore the uniform. *He stole the uniform off a dead man, in fact.* This just lets me use it more . . . productively.

I suppose I could share a bit. One question, first: do you believe in the supernatural?
Supernatural as in ... ghosts? Spirits? I do not disbelieve in them, but I have never seen anything with my own eyes to say that they exist.
Not spirits exactly, at least in my case. I just have the wendigo sickness.

Mostly pork, maybe a bit like veal as well. Depends on how you cook it, too, of course.
