Protocols are such tedious things, I rarely pay attention to them.
I mean, if it was a self-destruct button then there would be a warning. Anything else we can probably deal with.

That button may decompress this apartment. Or flush ya out into space. It's not so much 'bout protocols as yer safety.

What would be the point of such a thing? Not that the concept isn't amusing, but very few people would design an idiot-killing button.

Gettin' rid o' intruders or trash may be one reason. Bein' able to experiment in vacuum another. Plenty o' reasons an' not all engineers take safety over comfort when designin'.

I would hope they'd at least add a warning label, but point.
On the other hand, you're the one who wanted to know what it does.

I may be an old man compared to you, my lad, but I'm not dumb. Note that I never actually pressed the idiot-killing button.

But ya suggested it.
[He got a smug look on his face]
I didn't. I'm a chief engineer.

Not my ship. I could try t' disassemble it but I don't think that would be appreciated.
[And it's not strange a 17 boy proclaims to be a chief engineer huh?]

That's not very clever. It could kill us both or mess up something important.

Alright, weapons was never my strong suit. Wouldn't it be more effective t' have it connected t' a tactical console tho'?

Okay.
[He glances back at her]
I'd wonder what Lieutenant Reed would think of that. Me, I'm more curious over the wiring.
