"Being knocked down is hard. Being killed is harder." She walked a little bit closer but still kept her distance, "Could you teach me to do that? To fight?"

No thanks. As a non practicing Catholic I have NO bible knowledge. Matt might, but mun does not.
"Doctor, actually. Marquez. And sure, I'll take a card in case I need one." Should she stretch out her hand to shake? Would he be able to tell if it was there?
It figures that a shrink would find him. His life never stops being interesting, that's for sure.
"You planning on a malpractice suit, anytime soon?" His eyebrows raise, as she practically confessed to a crime that she might or might not have committed.
Wait... wouldn't have it said on the card along with his name and number?
Which alarms Sally. Masks are considered 'freaks' in Gotham. Not accepted by organized crime but still criminals nonetheless. Her heartbeat races in anxiety and she shifts her weight to her other foot.
"What kind of clients do you take on?" She asks instead. It's part avoiding the question and part testing the waters to see if Matt's safe to confide to.
He hears her heart start to race. What did she have to hide? Was it a secret like his? That could be a tricky situation. After all that happened with Frank Castle, he wasn't sure he wanted to be involved with something like that again.
"I don't really have a specialty, per se, but I have dealt in criminal law, real estate, worker's compensation, disability cases. I was mostly a defense lawyer recently." Still, he was wondering if he was going to turn in this woman to the police.
She nods at that and then remembers that he probably can't see that. Well. Still might as well test the waters now and not when she really needs him like if she got arrested. It would be good to know which lawyers she should call ahead of time.
Sally takes a deep breath like this is exactly the kind of thing she doesn't want to talk about, "I'm one of those costumed types. For money. From Gotham."
He takes that in and blinks. "You're a hired criminal?" He would never let his secret identity slip and even then, he wasn't someone hired to do what major crime bosses wanted to have done in Hell's Kitchen.
"As much as I'd like to say that everyone deserves a defense...no, I can't, in good conscience, do that. Respectfully, how did your ethics get so twisted, that you resorted to this?"
"I suppose that's the blunter way of putting it." Her voice replies quietly. Her arms cross protectively over her chest.
At his next response she snorts a bit at the 'respectfully' part. There's nothing respectful about what she does. Still, it's probably safe to tell him what's already in her criminal record. It's not like it's some great secret.
Sally swallows hard and shifts her weight on her other leg, "I was walking to my car one night when I was attacked by two men. They put their hand over my mouth and dragged me to the woods near where I worked and they. They stabbed me." Her heartbeat is even. She's telling the truth as she remembered it.
"I woke up to what I thought was the next day. Found my way back, called the police. Did everything I was suppose to do. Turns out I had been missing for week." She clenches her hands on her arms before looking up at him again.
"Long story made short I had accused a member of the Falcone crime family. The case was dismissed and I was let go. No one was willing to hire me, they thought I was crazy. People just don't disappear for a week and nobody magically heals having their lungs punctured. For a while even I thought I was crazy until I discovered my...let's just call them 'abilities'. So I used them to get back at the people who ruined my life."
The doctor took a deep breath to get back under control again, "I got caught, went to Arkham, got out. Now I make my living however I can. I take requests, get paid, survive another day. I suppose I could've not struck back but like you said: Not everyone deserves a defense."
He did this for the precise reason that he wanted suspicion off of him. He was done with that life, wasn't he? Being a vigilante?
"I am an attorney. You asked for my professional opinion. I gave it to you. Right?" Was this woman out of her mind? This brings back flashbacks of the things he heard Frank Castle say. That twisted his mind so much and was such a shit show. There were a lot of things he regretted about that whole thing, that unfortunately, he couldn't take back.
The whole formal language just came out of his mouth. He was used to catering to clients and being neutral, so he went with it. It probably sounded very condescending and quite ironic, when he made his conclusion.
"Well, I've dealt with people like that before." Wilson Fisk for an example, maybe? Someone that sought to destroy him and discredit him? Yep.
"I can honestly say that as my short stint prosecuting work, that when the mob, or notorious crime lords are on the other side, you will be a target." Which he didn't care about, apparently. Self preservation? Eh.
"Abilities, as in what? I'm aware of super humans, Doctor. As far as what I've said before, it depends on what the circumstances are. Maybe I was too rash in saying that. It would depend on the case, the evidence and witnesses."
"Yes." She replied evenly, "I'm a criminal and you can't do it. I understand. As for the Falcones you don't have to worry about that. They're all dead. You heard about that prosecutor that got acid thrown in his face? He ended up killing them all."
She gives him a steady look for a long while. If she tells him, he'll probably fear and hate her. If she doesn't he'll probably think she's another psychotic off her meds. She makes a small click with her tongue and once again gambles to tell the truth.
"Long story? I have the ability to read and manipulate neurotransmitters and hormones. Some people would label this as 'mind control'."
"Well, technically, it would be out of my practice area, anyway. Unless you committed these crimes in New York. Which, you said you didn't. So, no, can't do anything for you...at all."
When Matt hears that, he immediately thinks of Zebediah Kilgrave. "I knew about someone like that here in New York. Mind control, manipulation, you name it, he did it. He's gone now, though. Dead."
No, complete vision loss. No, somehow, the chemicals didn't destroy them fully. I've always wondered why. But it's useless to dwell on it. It happened and here I am.
"Doctor," he says, standing there contemplating what just happened. That honestly wasn't the weirdest conversation he's had as Matt or Daredevil. But, it was interesting all the same. As he heard her walk away, he went back to his workout, trying to forget what he just heard. But he knew he never would.

[Matt is surprised that someone even knew he was here, let alone saw his activity. If he were smart, he would throw her out.]
No worries! I actually am a practicing Catholic so if you ever need to know something hit me up.

Does that make you tenacious or just stupid?

I know the basics, still...it was drilled into me.

"No, it's okay, not many people come around here this time of day," he says as he hands his card to her.

"Defense attorney. I'll keep this in mind if I ever get in trouble. Thank you.
How did she know he was a defense attorney? LOL

"No, I can promise you no malpractice."
Yeah, but usually, Attorneys usually have what they practice, not what side of the courtroom they
This really got Matt curious, yet alarmed at the same time. "So, what would you need my services for, exactly?" You have his full attention, Doctor.

Jeez. No vision left at all? I lost one eye, thought that was bad enough.
I know who Two Face is. ;)

Sorry. :(
"My kind usual does. Good night, Mr. Murdock." She tucks the card into her purse and turns to walk away.
No worries. I know the character in the movies, not comics, that's what I meant. ;)
