[He smiled gently.]

I'm not easy to scare off.

I don't know yet. I have a couple of offers on the table. A few days to decide.

[Chuckles softly.]

If you were serious...were you serious?

I was serious. I don't tend to be the guy that plays mind games.

Well, if you want me, you can have me.

[Pauses and gives him a small, playful nudge. She doesn't quite know how to act around him after he's seen her naked.]

Or, you know, there's a job at the FBI. The District Attorney's Office. But I need to scare the hell out of myself.

Good, because I do want you. Unless it hinders a chance to see you naked again.

[That makes her smile.]

It doesn't. I actually was hoping you were free tonight. Kinda missed you.

But if we're going to start working together, you also deserve to know my full story, too.

I am free tonight unless Sophe decides to be active.

How about we go to dinner and we can talk.

[He gets an almost shy smile. Karen is nervous on every level but she keeps reminding herself it's a good kind of nervous. Time to step out of her box and do something new.]

I've been wanting to call you. I just didn't have any idea what to say since, you know, kind of liked mixing busines and pleasure.

I liked mixing the two. Feel free to call me anytime.

I will. But right now I'm keeping you for a few hours.

[Laughs softly. There's part of her that just wants to kiss him and she starts to lean in but stops.]

So. What are you in the mood for? We'll get dinner and you can explain to me all the new rules I'll have to learn to follow.

I'm all yours for a few hours then.

[He smiled noting how she leaned in. He thought a moment.]

I'm thinking something simple like pizza or we can do fancy.

Take me someplace that you like. It doesn't need to be a big deal.

I just want to have one night where I don't have to be a cop. And maybe one night where we can just be us, before work enters the equation.

Okay, I do know a good little diner. Excellent food, quiet, and a nice place we can eat and enjoy a conversation.

[She grabs her coat. There's an awkward moment when she realizes that's all she has to worry about anymore.]

I should ask you how you've been in the last few days. Everything good?

It's been good, things are going well.

Honestly? I'm scared as hell. And emotional. I just left the only home I've ever known since I was 20.

But I'm also excited. To try a new challenge, and see where life takes me. And I'd like you to be a part of that. Because I like the way I feel when I'm around you.

Good. It's nice to know I can be good for someone again.

[Pauses.]

Would it be too forward of me to suggest we go back to your place later tonight? I'd like to spend the night with you.

Good. 'Cause I've been thinking of kissing you for like, five minutes.

[She laughs.]

You know. We'll have fun working together, and only partly because you've seen my breasts.

[He drew her close and kissed her back a little deeper.]

[She responded with a little more passion of her own, letting herself relax in his arms. She was happy to admit she was attracted to him and broke it only when she had to breathe.]

[Because Karen drove a Ford Fiesta. A bright lime green Ford Fiesta with a little bit of battle damage. She really should get a new car, but as he had figured out she didn't change much. She unlocked it and held the door for him, sliding in on the driver's side.]

So tell me what I'm in for. Other than whatever this between us turns out to be.

Not going to laugh, so don't worry.

[He offered a smile as he slipped into the car.]

And that makes you the first.

So anything important I should know before you start ordering me around? It will take a bit of getting used to.

I'm not an asshole of a boss. Just things tend to go based on what Sophe finds.

We'll figure it all out as we go along.

I think I gave my old boss more headaches than anything else. He's such a good guy, and I drove him up the wall.

[Smirking because she knows that sounds dirty and that's why she said it that way.]

[She grinned back at him as she drove before she found a parking spot and eased the car into it.]
