[It's a very good wig, because Marie doesn't even notice it. Then again, when you're knee deep in a club this busy, it's hard to get a second glance at anyone or anything.]
[If disguising one's hair is the new trend, then she's no different, but her hair is a natural blond. However, there's a small hint of red hidden in a few strands, as if she's let the dye wear off. Nothing tacky, simply hard to spot. Her dress of choice doesn't seem to be an eyesore either.]
[Isidor has her attention from the start, mainly because of her calm demeanor in a sea of wild dancers. The trip to the bar can wait, as she turns on one concealed white boot to face the other woman.]
"Your outfit...is it Gucci or Channel? The colors and design are very refined and well chosen."
[When you're as rich as Isidor, you can buy the best and learn from the best. In this case the long wig is carefully fixed and the edges disguised by the long waves of blended red and purple. She has a lot of neatly packed hair to hide, but she does it well. Not to mention the makeup work specially designed to give her face a different impression.
She isn't here to drink really. She's here to dance and lose herself and forget about Isidor Briar Durant, and all the burdens weigh on those shoulders. Still, every so often even she has to take a break to catch her breath. The table she found has a good view, but is just sheltered enough to be able to hear the question that comes out of the din.
It takes her by surprise and she glances down at her short white dress. She chose it because she knew she could move in it. And because it brings out the bright hair she's chosen to wear.]
Versace. [Looking over the other woman, she nods at her with her chin.] Yours?
[Red and purple, even though they aren't natural hair colors, still blend in better than the people who come into this club ill-prepared. Mismatching or falling apart hair extensions are an eyesore in comparison to well-designed wigs. Some don't even care about hiding their face or identity, which says a lot of about their intentions on the dance floor. Regardless, the true self always has a way of emerging in places like these, where the alcohol flows and music draws out inner desires.
Her own makeup job is light, not trying to hide any distinct facial features, mainly applied in order to fit in with the current company. One little faux-pas makes all the difference when trying to blend in. Marie's reasoning for being here is simply to have a little fun, some drinking and dancing of her own, but there is someone she's looking for. It's easy to hide that intent behind other pleasures for now.]
"Armani. I'm hopelessly attached to the brand." [She offers up a genuine, unforced smile.] "It takes a great deal of skill to pull off Versace. Something you accomplish very well."
[Compliments are a good start to casual socializing, as Marie's learned in the past, so she's hoping it will give her a few extra minutes with Isidor. It's rather impolite to be standing off the the side for this conversation, but even worse if she willingly takes a seat at Isidor's table without an invite. So with one hand, she gestures to a nearby chair, not even bothering to touch it.]
"May I join you? I will not be offended if you say otherwise."
[Compliments come fast and steady at the parties she's usually forced to attend. Out in the club, however, they're usually cheesy one-liners with a transparent goal. This... is different.]
[Isidor raises an eyebrow, and watches the other woman steadily.] Sure.
What are you drinking? [She asks as she looks at her own nearly empty cocktail.]
[Normally she's one to avoid engaging in any sort of conversation, but standing against the wall looking out of place is a worse feeling. Taking a seat, her eyes drift to Isidor's glass, reminding her of the near empty champagne flute she's carrying around.]
"Ah, I was enjoying a French 75. Something refreshing and not too overpowering. I might indulge and have another or change it up a bit. Still undecided." [Her eyes are now on Isidor, calm and friendly.] "The same question can be applied to you. What's your drink for the evening?"
[It's getting easier to void out the other conversations going on around them, but the music beats always draws her back into the vibe of the club.] "Looks like this place is picking up quicker than I expected. Normally the crowds don't kick in until later in the night, but maybe it's one of those days where everyone needs to have a good time."
[The mention of indecision in regards to another drinks gets a bounce of Isidor's eyebros as she briefly tilts her head to the side.] Well I'm not going to drink alone...
[Signalling a passing waiter, she lures him over with a smile and waits until he's within talking distance.] Could I get a Manhattan and whatever she's having.
[She's content to smile her thanks and sit back, surveying the scene around them. It's a decent song but not one that makes her want to give up her seat. Beside her the stranger starts speaking again. Small talk. She can do small talk. She's well versed in the most mundane small talk imaginable. Does she want to, though? Why this woman decided to come over to a stranger and strike up a conversation consisting of commentary about the crowds is beyond her.]
[Enough small talk, then.]
Is that why you're here? [She turns to the woman, leaning her elbow on the table.] Did you come out looking for a good time? With a man? On the dancefloor? Or just for the drinks?
"You won't have to. Another drink is fine by me." [Her attention goes to the waiter politely.] "A Negroni, please."
[Once they're alone again, her gaze is back to Isidor, understanding that even remotely showing her newfound companion any lack of interest is fatal. The whole reason she came over here is split into two driving factors, one being Isidor's lonely self in a club full of partners and the other being Marie's natural desire to push away from the crowds. Observing first is much better than diving into the party, although at this rate, she may never hit the dance floor. The modern age of music this club is favoring lacks something special...]
"A combination of the three. Drinking is relaxing after a long day of work and dancing is enjoyable if I decide to get wildly inebriated. As for that special man, well he's out there somewhere..." [She laughs a little, both hands relaxing on the table.] "It all boils down to not staring at a computer screen or sitting in long meetings for 12 hours."
[She takes a deep breath, leaning back in her chair a little.] "Look at me, getting all casual with you and failing to introduce myself. Jenna De Vere. It's nice to meet you."
[Work. That's one thing she could do with avoiding. As a topic or a required activity. So she nods her understanding and lets that drop.]
If you can't be casual with strangers in a club then what's the point of it? [She asks with a quirk of her lips and a tilt of her head. A second later, she sobers her smile. Best not scare off new company too quickly.] Victoria. It's a pleasure.
"Exactly. Self reflection is good, but sometimes others can help us see different perspectives or things we would've never experienced otherwise." [Isidor's behavior doesn't scare her off, rather, it only makes the woman sitting in front of her more interesting to chat with. Thankfully, Marie has a moment to contemplate her next move as their waiter arrives with new drinks.]
"Are you secretly a queen?" [A casual joke, nothing too offensive. But now Marie's line of questioning shifts away from casual banter, to a topic she very much enjoys. Figuring out the undisclosed desires in Isidor's heart. What brings her to this club? That fleeting moment of enjoying chaos? Or something more...She cares not about the personal life of a stranger, merely what makes them happy. That's her job, after all, to entertain and please people.]
"So, Victoria, what do you desire out of tonight? A chance to meet new people? Some reprieve from the real world?"
[Oh, ok. Someone's getting all philosophical all of a sudden. Isidor raises an uncertain eyebrow.] Right...
[Jokes are more what she expected. Jokes and questions. She huffs a laugh and runs a hand through her hair.] Tonight I'm looking for nothing but desire. No world outside of this place. Just dancing, alcohol and warm bodies...
[Speaking of which, the waiter returns and sets two glasses down for them before heading off again.]
[The eyebrow isn't missed, and in response, Marie just smiles and laughs lightly. Time to dial it back a bit and resume casual moves instead of serious topics.] "Well, you've come to the right place for that, keeping the outside world where it belongs. No shortage of alcohol either..."
[Her comment about dancing does get her attention, making it easier to lean into simpler topics.] "What's your music type? Got a particular track that will get you on the dance floor?" [As for warm bodies, there's a questionable look on her face while pondering that statement.] "Somehow, you strike me as the type who wouldn't put up with an inappropriate gentleman on the dance floor."
[What music does she like? Isidor stares off at a distant point.] I like music that you can worship to. There's something about taking dull human needs and desires and making them sacred... [She shrugs and looks back to her companion.] Well. It seems rude not to dance.
Inappropriate? No. [As her glass reaches her lips she stills as they curl into a smile.] But every so often there's someone who knows how to play the game and toe the line. That's usually fun.
"Worship? That's an interesting choice." [Give her a second, Isidor, she has to shake the idea of churches out of her mind. True, songs with meaning are enjoyable, but tradition hymns are not going to be played on the dance floor.] "Are we praising Dionysus, Maximón or Hathor tonight? Many years ago, I would've scoffed at the idea of a sacred deity existing, but now I believe in them."
[She realizes that can slip the conversation back into a serious note, but it's something to think about. A playful smirk is on her face, sipping idly from her glass while listening to her companion talk. Victoria is truly unique in comparison to other girls she's met at clubs.] "You have my attention. I wouldn't mind playing this game, if you're okay with a female partner."
[Isidor hides her laugh behind a shaking of her head.] None of them, and all of them. I don't mean worshiping a god. They don't need to get all the attention, and I don't want the rest of the world in here, remember?
[She fixes the other woman with an intense stare.] I want to worship music, and motion, freedom and my body. They're worth worshipping all by themselves.
[That stare is broken by a smile and she glances away before turning a sceptical expression on Jenna.] You're nice… but I don't think you'd be able to handle it. No offence.
"Good point. It's all about you tonight." [She tips her glass lightly in Victoria's direction, a sign of resignation. She won't be bringing up the serious topics any longer.]
"That premise sounds much better than what I was guessing. You're honestly one of the few people I've met that understands the importance of taking care of yourself and knowing what will make you happy."
[The look on her face gets a small laugh out of Marie.] "I should be offended, but I'm not. However, I think you're writing me off before I even have a chance to prove myself." [She places her drink down on the table gently.] "Tell you what, if I can't handle it, then I'll be on my way without saying another word."
That's because most people are idiots. [Said simply and with just a hint of cheek as she sips her drink.]
[Isidor watches her from over her drink, silently and thoroughly scrutinising her. Eventually she sets her own drink down.] Alright. But be warned, I'm not fond of giving second chances. So you better make this count.
"Well, I'll put up with them for my own sake. Can't really say no to the people who sign my checks." [If people are willing to pay her for happiness, then there's no way she'll turn them down. Some of those clients are ones she actually cares about, while others are just another means to make money.]
[Marie is not one who normally likes giving control of a situation over to someone else. An equal collaboration is one thing, but slipping into the support role is unusual. However, it's the mystery of seeing whatever Victoria has planned that keeps her interested, wanting to play along with this game she has in mind. She's calm the entire time, a hint of amusement in her tone of voice. This is fun for her.]
"Now you're sounding like me on a normal day." [There's a smirk on her face, as she gestures outward with one hand calmly.] "As you will, Victoria."
