Entire family to Daytona.

Still tradition.

You too, huh?

My family lives here so I have no excuse.

My dad was my spotter for a few years. It was fun. Also awkward.

[Offering a hand.]

I'm Shelby, it's lovely to meet you.

So who does your husband work for? I'm still meeting all the NASCAR people, outside of my team and the Ganassi boys I really don't know a lot of them yet.

[Chuckles.]

I just come to hang out and spend time with the family before my season starts.

IndyCar. I drive the No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet.

[Which means, if Andy knows anything about IndyCar, that she's the reigning champion but Shelby never comes out and says that. It's just pompous and she doesn't expect that anyone knows her.]

But the rest of my family lives here, so it's a win-win. See the race and get to spend a few weeks at home. What about you, are you local?

I'm in New York myself. Formerly Indianapolis, but my husband's business is in New York so I drew the short straw.

[There's no small part of her that's still sad about that. Her dream house in Indiana is now little more than a glorified storage closet.]

My teammate was born in Tennessee. Hendersonville. I've never been though.
