[He looks away from what he's doing towards the kid. Bored? Tartaglia? Hardly ever! The Harbinger showed the boy a mildly questioning look.]
Not at all. It's important to take care of what weapon you use.
[Look at his bow. It's got a bit of blood on it. His smile looks a little grim. Sure, he'd never attack children, but... if there's someone who knows of him, and would want to go after him...
Tartaglia showed him a sincere smile, with a veiled amusement behind his eyes.]
"Well, are you sure you know what you're getting into? Approaching a Fatui Harbinger?"
Behind his smile was a mild warning in his questions as he brought up his military class title. He decided to mention this, case the boy assumed he was just one of the Fatui scouts that lingered around Liyue Harbor, or any of the ruins.
Even then, it wouldn't be wise to try anything with any of his subordinates. They weren't quite as bad and fearsome as the Harbingers, but wouldn't hesitate to threaten or do harm. Unlike Childe.
Tartaglia laughs lightly. "Consider it a kind warning. Y'see, I'm kind of a bad guy... Really, it wouldn't at all be smart to mess with the Fatui."
He keeps smiling, as he remains friendly. He has a little brother who's at least a few years younger... It wouldn't at all sit right for him to hurt Louis. "I'm known as Tartaglia, number eleventh of the Harbingers. But you can call me Childe, since I know the other name is a mouthful."
"How about I call you Louis, for short?" Childe's smile remained on the friendly side. "I'm not sure how sheltered you are, and I won't assume. But... you're at least lucky to not be in the presence of the other Harbingers." Concern enters into his tone as he did his best to simply explain.
"The Fatui, the military from my homeland up north, are known for their deceptive and back-handed methods. They wouldn't hesitate to do bad things to children who get too curious for their own good."
He paused, and then figured that maybe he should help Louis get back home to his family. A kid, out on his own in the wild out here? What if some stupid hilichurls decided to gang up on him? What if some of the vicious slimes decided to attack? From there, he quickly recalled all the other hostile creatures.
"What nation are you from, Louis? I could help escort you home, if you'd like." It wouldn't matter if it would take some time to get a boat to go to where the boy lived, if far from Liyue Harbor, or the Wangshu Inn. That soft spot for the kids seemed to whisper in his head that it wouldn't be right at all to just leave Louis here.
Louis glares at being called sheltered, and then smirks.
"I've yet to hear of your harbingers, but have you ever heard of vampires?"
Louis opens his mouth in a slightly unhinged looking grin. He's got fangs.
The rest of his answers can wait. Right now, de Sade suddenly wants to show this patronising stranger that he's got no need for a saviour. Even if Louis needing no saviour, Louis not feeling scared, is a huge lie.
The sight of the boy's particularly very pointy, needle sharp looking teeth caused him to stare at them. He didn't ever recall seeing or having encountered anyone similar to this boy in his life.
"I don't believe I've ever met one... Is that what you would be? A vampire?"
Multiple questions were starting for form and gather in his mind. Further in the back of his mind was a very decisive thought; to make sure the other Harbingers never get their hands on him. They'd poke, prod, and experiment on him.
"Were you born that way? With those fangs?" It couldn't be helped if Childe was looking over Louis very curiously now. There wasn't even a hint of fear in his words, but the way Louis's demeanor changed caused him to feel a bit of an adrenaline rush.
Normally, those who'd show them anything sharp either meant to make a threat, or want to engage in a fight. Childe didn't want to harm him. Louis didn't look much older than his younger brother, Teucer.
He observed Louis carefully as he assessed on what may happen next. He wouldn't hesitate to defend himself if the boy intended to bite him.
Then, Childe's further reaction changes, apparently enough for Louis to still engage in talking to him.
"Yes, I was born this way, and so were my parents. Still, it's a right question - long ago, there had been some humans who changed into vampires. Their parents hadn't been too happy about that."
This amused him. "You're quick to classify me as just anyone, Louis. There's that old saying about not judging a book by its cover."
Childe knew he was being a little ironic, since he didn't tend to read books much--only when he had to. Still, he very much agreed to the context behind the timeless phrase.
Most people Childe knew didn't tend to have received the extra and brutal combat training he'd gone through in that hellish dimension deep underground. And he didn't know anyone else who had as much fun as he would during a good fight... However, he would refuse to fight most who appeared much younger than him. (Scaramouche, another Fatui Harbinger, had been a very irritably special case all on his own. Despite his adolescent appearance, his actual age was around five hundred years old. No, he wasn't a vampire--but something else Childe couldn't quite put his finger on.)
He listened attentively to the boy's words. "Humans can change into vampires? How does that happen?" Of course, he also had to ask, "Are vampires a danger to humans?"
He wondered over any possibility an adult version of this species of people showing up in this world... Nothing that would make sense to him came to mind, and he knew he would have to ask Louis over how came here by himself.

"All right, Childe. And since we're speaking of mouthfuls, I'm Louis de Sade."

"That reaction. You couldn't be more of a textbook - no, history book - human if you tried, could you?"
