[It wasn't often he came across children picking flowers and the sight was a welcome change from the battlefields he was used to seeing.
He returns the smile with one of his own.]
Good. This place can be dangerous, so I'm glad you haven't run into any problems while you're here.
[He takes a moment to think about it. There are plenty of open fields around and some of them certainly contain flowers but they are not exactly safe, few places around here are, exept...]
Most of the places I know of are unsafe to roam without guards, but I do have a garden at Himring that contains flowers you're unlikely to come across in the wild.
Dangerous? ...Guards? [Concern shows easily on her face. Oh no, that's not good. Her current surrogate Papa and the boy who also lives with them might get worried about her if she's alone for too long.
The man with the big ears seems really nice though! The mentioning of a garden brings her interest.]
You have a garden? May I see?
[Curiosity is now visibly seen. Her pink eyes widen in interest.]
Yes, there are dangerous things roaming around the eastern marches. Orcs and trolls mostly, not something a young lass would wish to meet all on her own. [It must have been incredibly lucky that no such things came across her before he did, Morgoths armies often came here to test his defenses.]
I do. It is a hothouse garden, since Himring is usualy too cold to grow much of anything without it. You are welcome to walk through it if you wish and pick a flower or two if any of them strikes your fancy.
[Her distress makes him move closer to offer some comfort to the girl. She'd obviously not meant to roam so far from home.]
Take a deep breath child. [He kneels down and puta a comforting arm around her shoulders.] Can you tell me who you are and where your home is, perhaps I can help you find your way back.
[She indeed does follow his instruction. Make it two breaths, as she wills herself that she'll see her family again soon. His comfort also helps to calm her down.
After wiping away a stray tear, she replies in a low, worried tone of voice.]
[He gives her the time she needs to compose herself. Rubbing her back in soothing motions all the while.
He gives her an encuraging smile when she's calmed down enough to speak again.]
Well met Nana. I am Maedhros Fëanorion lord of Himring, little one.
[Strange, there is not much to be found in that direction. At least not for a very long distance where Maglor's Gap is located.]
Strange, there is not much to be found in that direction. Unless you come from my brothers lands? But that would be a very large distance for such a little girl to cover.
[He's so nice. Her current surrogate papa and her new brother would like to meet him, no doubt!]
Maedros Feah... Um...
[She stops trying to repeat his full name and title right then, knowing that she'd butcher it. In listening to him, she blinks in shock. Her pink eyes are very wide. Hearing this overwhelms her as she's able to listen to him mention about his brother.]
What...? But there's a... You have a brother? Why does he not live in the same house as you?
[Ah. He should have remembered the trouble young children have with pronouncing his name.]
You may call me Nelyo if you'd like. All my brothers do, and a large part of our extended family as well come to think about it.
I have six... well five now, but that is not something young children needs to concern themselves about. [He gives her a sad smile.] They all have their own lands and holdings as well as lives of their own to live. I can't say I don't miss having us all under one roof, even with all the chaos they are prone to create, but it just isn't possible at the moment.
Okay. Thank you for warning about this place not being safe, Neylo.
[She's had manners since long before having found herself living in houses with nice people. Her former Papa had taught her, back at her first home, in which wasn't nearly as nice as where she's lived now...]
Could we leave, and go to back the way I came? Home still should be there.
[I hope- No, no, the house and the whole town she'd familiarized with has to still be there. Nana probably shouldn't worry too much.]
There is no need to thank me, young one. As the lord of these lands it is my duty to keep the ones in it as safe as I can.
[Wich, admitedly, was not as safe as he would like to be able to keep them. He had chosen the least defensible lands as close to the frontlines as possible, that came with certain drawbacks. A lack of saftey being one of them.]
If that is what you wish. Would you mind if I had my guard join us? It would make the journey safer, the orcs tend to keep their distance when I'm around but I'd rather not take any chances.
[Although he has a feeling that something stranger than simply a lost child is happening right now.]
[Nana shook her head slightly.] I don't mind at all. As long as your guard helps us.
Your lands?
[Did that mean that this wet-land place was Neylo's home? Where's his house...? Curiously, she started to look around them for any buildings.]
Are orcs really bad?
[The young diclonius didn't remember having come face to face with orcs around here. She didn't know what one was, or what one looked like.
Where she originally came from never had them to begin with. Although, it sure wasn't nice to look at. It didn't have flowers, birds, grass, trees, or dirt... All of those wonderful things of nature were on the outside of the Facility.
Nana didn't tend to think about the place she was kept and confined in, over a year ago. The Facility, where she used to refer to as her first home. Not anymore. She no longer had to worry about that place.]
They will. [He gives two sharp whistles to signal to his guards that they can aproach. It will take a little time for them to reach this place but no more than a couple of minutes.]
Indeed. Himring and the lands around it are mine to govern and protect. Unfortunately they are on the frontlines and close to Angband so they are not the safest around.
[They were quite a distance from Himring, but if she'd strain her eyes looking the way he'd come she might see the topp of the fortress's highest tower.]
[Oh, hey, she actually could see the tall part of a building in the distance a little. So far away...
Wait- She didn't realize this place was named like this, and looked to Neylo, confused.]
Has Himring been around a long time...?
[Honestly, she had no idea. She hadn't expected to go this far from her much happier, safer home.
A bit of a chill up Nana's spine causes her to slightly shudder. Worse than those doctors were?! What were they going to do? Was there any way in which she could help Neylo, his guards, and herself be safe.
As they waited for his guards to arrive at their location, she had fallen quiet, and had briefly contemplated.
Would my idea work? Would they be strong enough against the orcs?
I could try... I have to! Now that everyone had gathered, she decided to want to show them something she was sure they'd probably never seen before. Ever.]
I could maybe help push the orcs back, or help slow them down. [Nana looked around to Neylo and his guards as she continued.] I have these special arms and hands. They're longer than my arms and legs. What you can easily see.
[Nana was feeling a bit nervous, but she was starting to believe she could trust these people. She wanted to be helpful. She wanted them all to be safe.]
A couple of decades now. Not too long in the big scheme of things.
[Not from an elven perspective at least. Himring was one of his greatest achievments and he was immensly proud of it. He'd overseen the entirety of the construction from start to finish.
He hadn't meant to frighten her so much, but it wouldn't have been a kindness to downplay the danger a pack of orcs presented. He'd seen what they did to those they captured alive, lived through it as well, when he'd been held in Angband. Death would have been kinder.
He could hear the hoofbeats of the horses getting closer, too far away for human ears to pick up the sound but it wouldn't be for long.]
Arms? [What she described sounded almost like something a Maia would be able to do. If he were any other elf he'd be suspicious that she was sent by Morgoth but having been his captive made him familiar with the feeling of one of his minions and this girl did not feel even remotly like one of his.] If it comes to that I would not mind the help. Though I would ask you not to endanger yourself needlessly and see to your own saftey first and foremost. Hopefully my presence will discourage them from making a move.
[He hoped he wouldn't have to fight in her presence. He'd been told he was terrifying in battle even too his allies. He wouldn't want to frighten her.]
[She had already known what a decade was, from overhearing and participating in conversation around her new family. A really long time...
Nana refused to think about what horrible things the orcs were capable of. In the back of her mind, she recalled something her Papa had always told her, whenever she had to go through any experimental testing. Be brave
She intended on doing just that. She didn't want to let her new friend down! Being a burden wasn't something she wanted at all.
Slowly, she started to lift up her four vectors; four lengthy transparent arms and hands that Neylo could see the clearest, for he was visibly closest to Nana. She of course never, ever harmed anyone with her special arms that didn't deserve it!]
I could reach the orcs without having to be close to them them. I'll be careful, Neylo.
[The vectors come out of her back as she holds her ghost hands up and around them. But she doesn't touch him with either of them.]
I'll be brave, and help however I can.
[Nana looked determined.]

Sorry it took a while, work got in the way for a bit
[He observes her demonstration with admirable calm at being faced with such a startling discovery. If he were any other elf he might have flinched out of surprise. As it is he watches with some interest. Elvish eyesight is better than a humans and he can see a bit how the air looks different in places around the girl. Are those her spectral hands?
There were Maiar that was of similar make to those arms, transparent as if they were made of wind, only visible if you looked at it the right way. And even then it was more a feeling rather than truly seeing it. Maybe this girl had some Maiarin blood in her veins?]
Are they physical? Or an extension of your mind? Ah! Sorry, it's rude of me to ask such personal questions. My family has always been plauged by curiosity I fear. I would not say no to your aid, little one. Though, I'd appreaciate if you at least stayed close so I could protect you in turn.
[Because children, no matter how powerful, should be protected.]
I don't doubt your bravery. It's... well, my people usualy don't have very many children. In war time especially. It goes against our nature to put children in harms way, they are after all most precious.
It's fine! I'm usually mid to slow paced in tags myself.
[Nana's a bit surprised to see Nylo not startled by her vectors. Most people usually were. Cloud, Hope, and some of her other friends sure were when she first showed them!]
I don't mind! I know you won't hurt me. [She smiles a little as she continues.] My vectors aren't physical. I heard a few of my friends call them ghost arms, or ghost hands. They're not wrong... You're not scared of them?
[The doctors and scientists at the Facility were very nervous around them. Nana doesn't dwell about those uncaring, scary humans who worked there. This isn't the time to even try to go over that.]
[Hearing about there not being a lot of kids around does make her feel sorry for Neylo's people. That's so sad...]
Don't worry. I'll stay close to you, but not the orcs!
[She'd rather get herself and Nylo a good distance from what's supposedly much scarier people than she already knew. After that, she would give them a hard shove. She could hurt them a little too, but she wouldn't bring herself to kill... Maybe only if she really, really had to? The other Nana from within she isn't aware of is inactive.]
[He had long since perfected his pokerface. He'd learned not to show any emotion at all in Angband, no matter what new torment they presented him with. Keeping his startlement to himself when Nana brought out her vectors was an easy thing to do.]
That's good, I know I can look a bit frightening to people and asking so many questions are unlikely to make me seem less so. [The scars and his usualy stern manners didn't do him many favors on that front.] So... an extension of your spirit then, perhaps? No, they do not frighten me. After all that I've seen in my life, this is hardly the strangest and far from the most frightening. It reminds me of some of the Maiar, in a way.
[After being held in Morgoths clutches for three decades he doubts he'll ever truly fear anything else ever again.]
Thank you, little one. It will help me greatly not to worry about you in the middle of battle, should we be unfortunate enough to find ourselves in the middle of it.
I recently imported my Kaede/Lucy/Nyu to DW so I'll friend access with that account soon.
[There's a name of something she's not at all familiar with.]
Huh? What's a Maiar? I'm a diclonius. [She pauses to think.] ...I guess my vectors could be, but I'm not sure. I just know they're very long, and not easy for most to see. They come out of my back.
[Nana smiles cheerfully to her friend.] I promise to be careful! You'll be careful too, right? You don't scare me a bit, by the way!
[She'd of course give it her all to help protect him. These orc creatures Nylo describes must be very nasty, and scary. Meaner than anyone else she had ever met!
I hope...!]
We better make sure there's no orcs past those trees. They shouldn't be near my family.
A Maia is... I suppose you could call them a minor spirit. Less powerful than a Vala but beyond any of us incarnates in the level of power they wield. [How strange that she has not heard of them.] I can see them, a bit at least, but then my people have eyesight beyond that of a humans ability.
[He gives her a crooked smile in return. It's been a while since he met a child that didn't find him at least a bit frightening.] That is well, I'd hate to see you harmed. You don't need to worry about me, I'm always careful. Thank you, that means a more to me than you know.
[Orcs are indeed very nasty. He'd seen them eat prisoners alive in Angband with the same ferocity as the wargs they rode did. Though they were cowardly when you outnumbered them a horde of orcs could tear their victims apart limb from limb, laughing while they did so. He'd do his best to see to it that Nana didn't have to come face to face with them.]
That we will, I won't stand for them to be so near any setlments around here.
If you're not human, then what are you? There's so much around here that I still don't know about.
[Nana's mostly been familiar with both normal humans and her own kind. Not every human has been kind to her. The only two she ever met weren't at all kind.
Well, Lucy is a bit less bad towards her, but it has been quite a long while since Nana had last been able to sense her presence.]
It's a really good thing you found me, huh? [She softly giggles a little. How lucky she is to have met someone so kind and caring in such a completely unfamiliar place!] Thank you. This means a lot.
[Everything, actually. She had already lost the one and only Papa she had ever come to love. If Cloud and Hope were hurt by orcs, she wouldn't know what to do!
Their other family member who occasionally visits--Nana doesn't want to think about how upset she'd feel about that.]
I'm an elf, one of the Noldor to be more precise. I have a feeling you might be from further away than my brothers land, little one.
[Wich was a bit disconcerting. There was too much she didn't know for her to be from around here.]
It probably is. Though any of my soldiers would have treated you with the same curtesy as I do I cannot say the same for the orcs. [As a child she would have been coddled and had her every need seen to no matter wich elf would have come across her. Even though some of them might have shown some innitial suspicion.] You are very welcome, the world is always in need of a little more kindness being spread around. Don't you think?
I had a feeling something strange was happening. I hope you don't mind me saying so, but you look very unlike anyone I have ever met before.
[He'd wondered first if she were a Maia, but she didn't have that feel about her. As far as he could tell she was as much flesh and blood as he himself was.]
That I agree wholeheartedly with. So many problems could be solved if everyone could agree on that. [Not all problems, of course, but a lot of them. His family would not have so many problems if only his father could have extended some kindness to the children of Finwë's second marriage.]
[She's been ready to go as she'll follow and stay close by Nylo's side towards those grouping of trees. There's no doubt; she's really, really sure she had come here just past them!
Nana doesn't seem to mind his words at all, as she tells him a bit of a hard truth.]
I think this world's a lot different from the one I first came from... There aren't many others like me, and I'm one of two, no, three good ones.
[At first she had thought of just Nyu and herself as the only good and friendly ones of her kind, until she realizes in almost forgetting about Sadako! This other diclonius girl was innocent and going through a hard time. That's what Nana's world traveling friend, Mari, had said to her.
Nana promised she'd do all she can to help look for that girl. She very well knows that diclonius can sense each others' presences.]

She begins to smile. Wow, his ears are bigger than mine!]
I'm alright.
[I can carry them on my own, but... !! She has an idea of how he could help her with something else.]
Mister, do you know any place I could find some different flowers?

He returns the smile with one of his own.]
