*catches and fumbles ball, but manages to hold on to it*
It's the stream near his father's home. The sky is a bright clear blue and the water flows like a cascade of diamonds tumbling over each other. As he approaches, Ray is laying out a red checked picnic cloth over the grass, flicking it up so that it billows up as it settles over the vibrant green.
Birds sing in counterpoint to the pattern that the trickling stream sets. Smiling to himself, Ren settles on the cloth, taking care to sit in the shade. Ray glances at him briefly, giving him a tender look before begining to lay out the picnic. There are several varieties of cheese, Ren is pleased to notice.
Despite having his jeans rolled up to the knees, the bottoms of Evan's trousers are wet from paddling. With a grin to his half brother, Evan sits down opposite and leans back to bask in the sun.
Ren feels warm and at peace. Everything is where it should be. Evan is talkng softly about a dragonfly he saw and Ray's hand creeps over to find Ren's, fingers weaving together. He gives his hand a squeeze. Straightening up, Evan shoots the couple an honest smile before reaching forwards to take a slice of the flapjack Ren made....
*she barely feels herself being caught and lowered to the ground when she is overcome by a rainbow of colors that sort themselves into a beach scene. It's so real she can feel the warm sand between her toes and smell the salt of the ocean*
The water laps at her feet and foam swirls around her ankles. When she looks over her shoulder she can see a trail of footprints in the sand.
"Doro!" Someone's calling her but she can't see them yet. Strange, no one's called her Doro for years.
"Up here Doro." Ace looks up to see someone sitting on top of a boulder. The sun is behind them and she holds her hand up to shade her eyes. It's a woman with long dark hair and skin the color or caramel. When Ace looks into the woman's eyes she breaths in sharply and scrambles to the top of the rock.
"Manisha." Ace embraces her friend, breathing in the spicy smell that reminds her of the place she once thought of as home. She blinks when the beach swirls around them and they are suddenly sitting on the bed in Manisha's childhood bedroom.
"I've missed you Dorothy."
"I've missed you too, 'Nisha. I think of you every day."
"I watch you. Not all of the time, because that's not allowed, but sometimes I get a peak. I'm proud of who you've become." Ace watched the grown woman walk around the room that no longer existed, touching mementos of the childhood they had shared. "My best friend, time traveler and rebel queen."
"Sound's like one of the games we played when we were young, dunnit?" They had been spies, astronauts, wizards, movie stars. Anything that involved adventure and getting away from Perivale.
"We never dreamed of anything as aces as the TARDIS."
"It is bril. Meeting the Professor..."
"It was meant. You always were for bigger things than our naff little town." The room was starting to fade, and Ace knew that nothing would replace it this time.
"You're still the best friend I've ever had, 'Nisha. Not even a Time Lord can replace you."
"Take care of yourself, Doro." A hug that starts with the two of them ends with Ace standing alone.
*Ace keeps her eyes closed for a full minute, not willing to give up the remains of the dream right away. When she could sense Fred and George looking at her she blinks her eyes open*
One of you brats wouldn't have a towel or summit would you? You weren't lying about that drool.
