No, they didn't. Not really. They were always reliant on two people keeping their word. Anytime more than one person is involved chances are that someone is going to break their word and no handshake will stop it.

A mere oversight on my associate's part, I am sure. I'm certain I can bring him around to my way of thinking.

Good luck with that. I'm finding people particular difficult to persuade today which probably makes my opinion biased.
