I'm sure your own mum is perfectly nice.
Even if she can't remember my name.

It's not that she isn't nice, she just...
Well, I guess no one's perfect, yeah?
I just--like being with you a lot more sometimes. Is that bad?

No, that's not bad. It's part of growing up. Wanting to explore new things. I let you go on adventures and she doesn't.

I don't like what she did to my dad, but I know she still tries. At least I've got him, though.
And I don't think you should worry too much about how you're doing with Luke. *smiles*

You do. And your mother loves you, even if she's not that good at showing it.
I'm still learning how to be a mother. I've never even had a cat.

I guess that's the difference I see between the two of you--you do show it, with Luke and even Clyde and me.
...Didn't you have a dog, though?

A tin dog. I love him dearly, but if he needs food, he just plugs himself in to the nearest electrical outlet.
Not exactly a high maintenance pet. Except for his issues with uneven flooring.

Because I've got a mum, I just...don't always like the way she acts. With me, or my dad, or other people.
She's still my mum, though. But I've got a really good friend, Sarah Jane, who understands me more sometimes.

Is it so wrong to have both a mother
and
a friend? Some have neither.
