He was a lot of things to a lot of people. Most of them weren't that pleasant, I know. But to me he was my husband, the father of my children, the man I loved. I will mourn him as that.
I went to see Murphy, to see if I would want some revenge or to kill her. All that was left was emptiness, not anger, not some need to turn her into a villain so I could live with what had happened. Nothing. Never seeing her again will be enough for me.
Everyone wondered why I married him. He even wondered. But when I was hurting and needed to lash out, he told me I could hit him. I asked him why he was ok with it. His parents beat him until he was twelve, him and his brother. Then others continued when he went into the system. And he would have let me hit him, too. He didn't know it was wrong that he was hurt like that. But he never laid a hand on the kids, ever. He was terrified he would. So terrified he never saw how good he was with them. Didn't believe me when I told him he helped me be a better parent. Never hurt me outside of the bedroom, and I don't count that, S&M just...he was afraid, then, too. Afraid he wouldn't be able to control himself. But he always stopped.
*swallows hard, caresses her cheek* Sometimes the damage is just too deep to fix. No matter how much you loved him, it was never going to get better for him. *whispers* He might not have understood, but I think he knew that you loved him.
You're welcome. I really don't know what to say to make you feel better... I know I've said it a million times, but if you ever need anything from me...
*He hadn't exactly been very happy with her lately, and he knew she didn't need this from him, but perhaps he felt he owed it to her somehow anyway. It was when he had been taking care of Murphy and realizing that it could easily have been her lying dead and him stripped of all that mattered to him in the world that he decided that, though he'd hated her lover and wished him dead, the least he could do was offer her some condolence.*
*He solemnly and respectfully lowers his head* Look I...I just came to say I'm sorry for your loss. And I mean it.

I know what it means to love a criminal. My family can look past it. I'm sorry you lost your husband but I can't mourn him. All I feel is hate.
