Because western society portrays aging as a negative aspect for women. Supposedly, it makes us less attractive and able to carry out our mothering/gathering "duties".

So when a man tells you that it doesn't matter, that your age does not make you less attractive--you are unable to believe him.

Because we can remember how we used to look, in our youths, and finding crows feet and wrinkles, well. It's hard. We think we're not as worthy of attention as we used to be, simply because all it takes to turn a head, these days, is a pretty face.

But it shouldn't. It doesn't make you any less beautiful. It's just...different. Natural, for everyone but..well. A few of us. To believe yourselves unworthy because of something so superficial doesn't make sense. No man worth anything would find a woman he loves less attractive simply because she aged.

It's the one thing they lie about their entire lives? When you're young you lie to be older and when you get old you start lying to deny how old you've gotten.

It should not be such a taboo subject. It used to be that age was venerated, celebrated. It is a sign of having lived, of having wisdom, experience, a breadth of knowledge to be respected.

Really, everyone's sensitive about their age. Guys included. Guys worry about getting fat and losing their hair. Women worry about getting fat and getting wrinkles. Guys buy a convertible and find a naive college girl to screw, women go get botox and lypo and screw around with the pool boy. Everyone wants to turn back the clock one way or another.

Because when a woman says she is hitting middle thirties, men assess whether they mean to or not, if she is dateable - as in firm and young - or marriage worthy - as in she's still got working ovaries that have a snowball's chance in hell of procreating.

Of course, there are exceptions like myself. Some men actually think past passing on the family name and don;t give a damn if a woman chooses to age naturally.

Because knowledge of our age changes the estimation of our value.

No one enjoys being less valued. Women tend to be quite aware of how their age or the appearance of their age changes their value.
