Best birthday gift for a child?
A 4-year-old boy

What age, boy or girl?

My brother loved little tricycles when he was that age, or action figures. A ball was always popular too.

Durable dinosaur or vehicle toys. Trucks, airplanes, cars.

You might also want to include a few hard-to-destroy books about them. Also, depending on where he lives, does he have a sandbox? Boys around that age love playing in the dirt.

Superman action figures, cars, or dinosaurs. Or Robots.

Unless it's a girl. Then I guess a barbie.

Yeah! He's a super hero. He's faster than a speeding bullet.

*nods*

I know a lot about boys. I am a boy!

The Art of War

A good book (http://www.amazon.com/Saint-George-Dragon-Margaret-Hodges/dp/0316367958) is always appropriate.

It might be a little complex, but you said above that he's a bright child, and it's a good experience to read as a family...

I'm sorry I didn't do it with you more often, son.

Very much depends on the child.

[identity profile] fever-crusade.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh, yes. I'm a mother, Lex. I know those all too well.

I'd go with some sort of learning-facilitating toy. If he's as bright and inquisitive as you say, he'll appreciate something like that far more than mindless fun.

One of the simpler model car kits if he's showing an aptitude for taking things apart and putting them back together. Something you can do together, being the idea.

If not, a remote conrol car or a child's bicycle, perhaps. Something to start rolling around on.

Ah, I see. Well, most boys do, and it's a good toy for most who enjoy the outdoors and anything on wheels. Just be careful if he decides to start adding anti-tank weaponry or something to it.
