Don't apologize for your work, Marlon. I can keep myself entertained. *pauses* I had lunch with my dad today.

*He raises his eyebrows and nods with a stunned "wooo boy" expression on his face* Oh...how was that, huh?

Awkward. We're not really good at fixing things.

*nods* Yeah...yeah I hear ya. I really do. My father and I share your talents. Still, at least you managed to make it through having to try.

I'm not good at avoiding family obligations when I really, really should.

*pretends to wince* Oooh. "Obligations", now there's a word that stings, doesn't it.

He's my dad, Marlon. The only family I've got. I can't avoid him just because things are rough between us.

*sighs, looking off into the distance* Yeah...yeah, I guess you're right...and every time it happens, there's that part that hopes somehow it'll all miraculously work out this time around.

Yup. Expectations are a bitch. But, hey, we didn't yell at each other this time. And Pop didn't get arrested. So, it's an improvement over last time.

Heh. If it were me, that'd be like havin' a breakthrough.

Oh, we fought, we just didn't yell. He thinks I should ask for a transfer to another unit. He wants me to go to Organized Crime. To get away from the violence.

*his eyes narrow* What is it with all these dads that aren't caring or loving toward their kids and yet still think they can tell 'em how to do things and run their lives?

My dad loves me, Marlon. He just isn't terribly good at showing it.

Yeah...*sigh* I didn't mean to go outta line, I was thinkin' too much about my dad there. I envy you, Murph. I mean at least you got a sense that he does love you underneath.

*puts a hand on his knee* You have someone who loves you, Marlon. No matter what.

*smiles a bit and puts a hand over hers* And you got someone that'll show how much he loves you any time.

*turns her hand over and laces their fingers together* I know. I haven't been so good about showing how much I appreciate having you around lately.

*raises his head up and looks her in the eye* It's okay, Connie. I had faith in you, and you didn't prove me wrong. Hell I didn't even have faith to put in people to begin with before we got together.

I know, but I feel like I owe you for everything you've done for me. I'm getting back to my feet, but it'll still be hard on us for awhile longer.

We stuck together through the worst of it. I can wait it out a little longer. It doesn't seem so bad now. Just as long as we know we're here for each other.

My therapist says I'll have good days and bad days. Getting more sleep should help, though the night terrors are going to get worse.

*lowering his voice* Murph, let me tell you something, every time you had a night terror fit, it woke me up right next to you, and it's terrified me every time, but I still didn't leave the bed or sleep somewhere else, and I won't. I'd rather deal with it than know you're not sleeping at all.
