Recognized for their work. Hmmm. That implies a need for approval, which I lack. Call it my overwhelming arrogance and inflated sense of self, but I don't need recognition from the masses. I know...terrible character flaw.
The phrase "exceptional thief" is a contradiction in terms. A thief acts on desperation, sadism, greed, or compulsion. The ones that use elaborate means to carry out their crimes act out of delusion and often psychosis. There is nothing exceptional or uncommon about any of those things. A thief is a thief. Known for stealing, known for being caught.
No. Every thief is the same, but not every thief performs identically. Not every short order cook wears the same uniform, nor do all come with the same work attitude, looks, or methods. But they are all the same. All as insignificant.
I am of the opinion that all men are equally insignificant, in the greater scheme of things. It is the mark we make while we are here that makes life an adventure. Well, that and money, of course. For all the esoteric philosophy in the world, it is money that makes the world go round, and keeps food in our bellies and designer suits on our backs.
