High School Musical.

Whatta waste'a time.

Oh God, tell me about it.

I definitely know that feeling. My son went through a phase where he would watch it day in and day out. He only managed to get me to sit through it in it's entirety once, and I believe I lost count of how many times I fell asleep. [Laughs] Why don't we seem to understand the hype?

Oh god, I totally love being in musicals. It's my life.

ooc:Sorry, had to

[identity profile] fabulous-style.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
But that's the best part about them.

[identity profile] fabulous-style.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
You're kidding me right?

You talk classics and you're talking Singing in the rain, On the town.

Classic Rogers and Hammerstein are totally cheesy. Plus people do not just burst into song in real life *shifty eyes*

Me, personally, I love them. But then I'm a star so..

Nothing wrong with a good musical!

[identity profile] notapoodle.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
High School Musical. You just try and figure out what age range it's aimed at and get back to me, okay? Though I'll give you a hint, the answer's in the title..

[identity profile] notapoodle.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Aah, yes, the classics are good, certainly to someone like you and I. But you have to understand the younger generation of today are used to modernism and simplicity in situations they can relate to.

Classics are good, but most aren't recent. A song and dance set to the French Revolution? Catchy, sure, but not something the average teen will easily relate to. And yet you hand them a setting they're currently belonging to- High School- and with characters they can relate to.. add a few songs, and Bam! you've got yourself a hit. I'd say it's a good thing. Kids'll enjoy that, then maybe dig further into the musical genre from there.

.. .. Not that I've ever even heard of 'High School Musical'. Popular, is it?

Hah, lady, I've always got a point when it comes to musicals. My life is practically one big musical. Besides, I see nothing wrong with liking a bit of cheese in my musicals now and then. You can still enjoy the classics without having to avoid the cheesy ones entirely.

And wow, that's some over-merchandising, by the sounds of it. Must really be a hit with the kids.

[identity profile] notapoodle.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, there are so many I could recommend purely on cheese factor! See and I like my cheese strong, maybe a good limburger or gorgonzola style strong. First off you've got the Disney ones, which are really a category unto their own, and I'm talking Hello Dolly, Mary Poppins.. y'know the sort. Then straying from those, I'd maybe suggest some Grease for an old school high school musical, and you've got Hairspray for the happy, chirpy and bright side of life, and Mamma Mia! for all us who love to sing to Abba, oh and We Will Rock You for the Queen fans-- I could go on, but I don't wanna keep you stuck here for the next few weeks.

It'd be nice if merchandising like that wasn't just set up to get kids to pressure their parents into spending bucks.

Like I said, I know my musicals, ma'am. Apparently not all of them though, seeing as I now gotta dig up this supposedly 'popular' High School Musical. Really never heard of it before now.

Me too. Maybe in ten years time that'll be different, but for now I am kid free.

THANK YOU!

Booya Johnny!

Actually, I've never seen the whole thing. Only like 20 minutes of the first on but I had a friend that insisted it was the greatest thing since sliced cheese.

Exactly.

meta crackishness

Especially when there are ever so many better ones out there.

One of the most obnoxious, dumb, and annoying movie musicals I've ever seen. And I've seen Staying Alive, Grease 2, and Xanadu. All of those films look like Singin' in the Rain compared to that piece of junk.
